Owned by Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, the station was licensed to Fabmar Communications in May, 2008.<ref>[https://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2008/db2008-116.htm Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2008-116]</ref> The station began testing on February 11, 2009 and launched at 12:05 pm on February 20, 2009, as ''89.5 The Hawk, Chilliwack's Rock Station'', initially playing an [[active rock]] format, later adopting a more [[classic rock]] format. The station was also the radio home of the [[Western Hockey League|WHL]] [[Chilliwack Bruins]] from February 2009 until the team's relocation to [[Victoria Royals|Victoria]] following the 2011 season.
