The '''CCHA Best Defensive Forward''' is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) regular season to the best defensive forward in the conference as voted by the coaches of each CCHA team.<ref>{{cite news|title=Henderson and Odegard Recipients of CCHA Major Awards|url=http://www.alaskananooks.com/news/2013/3/23/MHOCKEY_0323132240.aspx|publisher=Alaska Nanooks|date=2013-03-22|accessdate=2013-07-23}}</ref>
The Best Defensive Forward was first awarded in 1990 and every year thereafter until 2013 when the original CCHA was dissolved as a consequence of the Big Ten Conference forming its men's ice hockey conference.<ref>{{cite news|title=The CCHA is going away, but its history will have a final resting place|url=http://www.uscho.com/2013/03/06/the-ccha-is-going-away-but-its-history-will-have-a-final-resting-place/|publisher=USCHO.com|date=2013-03-06|accessdate=2013-07-23}}</ref>
The CCHA was revived in 2020, with play resuming in the 2021–22 season, by seven schools that left the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, with an eighth school joining before play started. The revived league folded the Best Defensive Forward award into a new CCHA Forward of the Year award.<ref>{{cite press release|url=https://ccha.com/news/2022/3/13/awards.aspx |title=CCHA to announce annual awards this week |publisher=Central Collegiate Hockey Association |date=March 13, 2022 |access-date=March 14, 2022}}</ref> The award was revived in 2024.<ref>{{cite news|title=Forwards Jutting and Milburn Share Defensive Honor |url=https://ccha.com/news/2024/3/12/mens-ice-hockey-forwards-jutting-and-milburn-share-defensive-honor.aspx |work=CCHA |date=March 12, 2024 |accessdate=March 14, 2024}}</ref>
Jackson Jutting is the only player to win the award multiple times.
