This work often is through interactive keynote addresses to corporations, universities, and other organizations.
==Early publications== Weinstein published his first book in 1985 at 25 while a graduate student at Georgetown University. ''Ethics in the Hospital Setting'' contains the papers presented at the first state conference devoted to the issue of what was then called hospital ethics committees, now known as institutional ethics committees. Weinstein is credited as the editor of the volume. Portions of Weinstein's doctoral dissertation, ''The Possibility of Ethical Expertise'' (Georgetown University, 1989),<ref>{{Cite book |last=PhD |first=Bruce Weinstein |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=y4orB3orHUkC&dq=The+Possibility+of+Ethical+Expertise+bruce+weinstein&pg=PA214 |title=Ethical Intelligence: Five Principles for Untangling Your Toughest Problems at Work and Beyond |date=2011-08-31 |publisher=New World Library |isbn=978-1-60868-055-9 |language=en}}</ref> were edited and published as the articles ''What is an Expert?''<ref>{{Cite book |last=Mitcham |first=Carl |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=6KERAQAAMAAJ&q=bruce+weinstein+Theoretical+Medicine+and+Bioethics+(Vol.+14,+No.+1),+pp.+57%E2%80%9373 |title=Encyclopedia of Science, Technology, and Ethics |date=2005 |publisher=Macmillan Reference USA |isbn=978-0-02-865834-6 |language=en}}</ref> and ''The Possibility of Ethical Expertise''.<ref>{{Cite book |last=Rasmussen |first=Lisa |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=eRErdPdqvuAC&dq=bruce+weinstein+Theoretical+Medicine+and+Bioethics+(Vol.+15,+No.+1),+pp.+61%E2%80%9375&pg=PA12 |title=Ethics Expertise: History, Contemporary Perspectives, and Applications |date=2006-01-17 |publisher=Springer Science & Business Media |isbn=978-1-4020-3820-4 |language=en}}</ref>
Weinstein's second book as editor, ''Dental Ethics'',<ref>{{Cite book |last=Medicine (U.S.) |first=National Library of |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=BnZiq1SEzZUC&dq=bruce+weinstein+Dental+Ethics&pg=PA525 |title=Current Catalog |date=1993 |publisher=U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, Public Health Service, National Institutes of Health, National Library of Medicine. |language=en}}</ref> is a collection of articles co-authored by ethicists and dentists. ==Later publications==
=== What Should I Do: 4 Simple Steps to Making Better Decisions in Everyday Life. === His first book in this project was, "What Should I Do: 4 Simple Steps to Making Better Decisions in Everyday Life." He applied the four-step protocol used by institutional ethics committees to ethical issues that people outside of health care face. This protocol is:
# Get the facts. # Identify the values at stake. # Find the options available to you. # Test the options and choose the best one, based steps 1 and 2.
The book was a Finalist for the Books for a Better Life Award.<ref>[https://www.nationalmssociety.org/chapters/nyn/fundraising/books-for-a-better-life/download.aspx?id=17574] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110727111924/https://www.nationalmssociety.org/chapters/nyn/fundraising/books-for-a-better-life/download.aspx?id=17574|date=July 27, 2011}}</ref>
=== Life Principles: Feeling Good by Doing Good === Weinstein's next book was published in 2005 by Emmis Books, a division of Emmis Communications. "Life Principles: Feeling Good by Doing Good," was an application of Tom Beauchamp and James Childress's "Principles of Biomedical Ethics."<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.oup.com/us/catalog/he/subject/Philosophy/Ethics/BioethicsBiomedicalEthics/?view=usa&ci=9780195335705 |title=Philosophy - Oxford University Press |website=Oup.com |access-date=2016-11-06}}</ref> The basis of the Beauchamp/Childress work is principlism, an ethical framework that uses principles as the foundation for ethical decision making. The four principles that form the core of the Beauchamp/Childress work are:
# Respect for autonomy<ref name=":0">{{Cite journal |last=Page |first=Katie |date=2012-05-20 |title=The four principles: Can they be measured and do they predict ethical decision making? |journal=BMC Medical Ethics |volume=13 |pages=10 |doi=10.1186/1472-6939-13-10 |issn=1472-6939 |pmc=3528420 |pmid=22606995 |doi-access=free }}</ref> # Nonmaleficence<ref name=":0" /> # Beneficence (ethics)<ref name=":0" /> # Justice<ref name=":0" />
Weinstein's work simplifies the principles, so that, for example, the principle of nonmaleficence becomes "do no harm", and the principle of beneficence becomes "make things better." Weinstein also applies the principles to areas beyond health care and biomedical research.
=== Is It Still Cheating If I Don't Get Caught? === The follow-up to "Life Principles" was a book for 10-14-year-olds entitled, "Is It Still Cheating If I Don't Get Caught?" Published in 2009 by Roaring Brook Press (a division of Macmillan), The book is an application of "Life Principles" to the issues that young adults face with teachers, fellow students, parents, and friends. It received the strongest reviews in Weinstein's career up to that point.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://us.macmillan.com/isitstillcheatingifidontgetcaught/BruceWeinstein |title=Is It Still Cheating If I Don't Get Caught? | Bruce Weinstein | Macmillan |website=Us.macmillan.com |access-date=2016-11-06 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150224120541/http://us.macmillan.com/isitstillcheatingifidontgetcaught/BruceWeinstein |archive-date=2015-02-24 |url-status=dead }}</ref>
=== Ethical Intelligence: Five Principles for Untangling Your Toughest Problems at Work and Beyond. === In 2011, New World Library published Weinstein's "Ethical Intelligence: Five Principles for Untangling Your Toughest Problems at Work and Beyond." The book expanded much of the work Weinstein had done in his columns for Bloomberg Businessweek on such topics as the outsourcing of customer service,<ref>{{cite news|author=Bruce Weinstein |url=http://www.businessweek.com/stories/2007-09-27/the-ethics-of-outsourcing-customer-servicebusinessweek-business-news-stock-market-and-financial-advice |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120716025111/http://www.businessweek.com/stories/2007-09-27/the-ethics-of-outsourcing-customer-servicebusinessweek-business-news-stock-market-and-financial-advice |url-status=dead |archive-date=July 16, 2012 |title=The Ethics of Outsourcing Customer Service - Bloomberg |newspaper=Bloomberg.com |date=2007-09-28 |access-date=2016-11-06}}</ref> the ethics of taking vacations,<ref>{{cite news|author=Bruce Weinstein |url=http://www.businessweek.com/stories/2008-07-29/the-ethics-of-taking-vacationsbusinessweek-business-news-stock-market-and-financial-advice |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131107032550/http://www.businessweek.com/stories/2008-07-29/the-ethics-of-taking-vacationsbusinessweek-business-news-stock-market-and-financial-advice |url-status=dead |archive-date=November 7, 2013 |title=The Ethics of Taking Vacations - Bloomberg |newspaper=Bloomberg.com |date=2008-07-29 |access-date=2016-11-06}}</ref> and how to give and receive criticism.<ref>{{cite news|author=Bruce Weinstein |url=http://www.businessweek.com/stories/2008-03-18/how-to-give-and-receive-criticismbusinessweek-business-news-stock-market-and-financial-advice |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120816054108/http://www.businessweek.com/stories/2008-03-18/how-to-give-and-receive-criticismbusinessweek-business-news-stock-market-and-financial-advice |url-status=dead |archive-date=August 16, 2012 |title=How to Give and Receive Criticism - Bloomberg |newspaper=Bloomberg.com |date=2008-03-18 |access-date=2016-11-06}}</ref> In 2012, ForeWord magazine selected "Ethical Intelligence" as a Silver Winner in its annual Book of the Year Awards in the self-help category.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://botya.forewordreviews.com/search/?year=2011&isbn=&title=ethical+intelligence |title=Search â€" Foreword Reviews' INDIEFAB Awards |website=Botya.forewordreviews.com |access-date=2016-11-06}}</ref>
=== Newspapers === Weinstein's letter to ''The New York Times'' calling for honesty in politics was chosen as the basis for its weekly Invitation to a Dialogue feature. The letter was originally published on July 7, 2012,<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/08/opinion/invitation-to-a-dialogue-an-honest-politician.html |title=Invitation to a Dialogue: An Honest Politician |newspaper=The New York Times |date=2012-08-07 |access-date=2016-11-06}}</ref> after which readers were invited to submit responses. The letter was then republished on August 11, along with several reader responses and a rejoinder from Weinstein.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/12/opinion/sunday/sunday-dialogue-daring-to-tell-the-truth.html?pagewanted=all |title=Sunday Dialogue: Daring to Tell the Truth |newspaper=The New York Times |date=2012-08-11 |access-date=2016-11-06}}</ref> The basis for the letter was Warren Beatty's 1998 film, Bulworth, a satire predicated on the idea that a politician telling the truth would be the stuff of comedy.{{Citation needed|date=January 2023}}
