'''Brit Awards 2006 ''' was the 26th show of the Brit Awards. It was organised by the British Phonographic Industry and took place on February 14, 2006<ref>{{Cite web |title=History |url=https://www.brits.co.uk/history/shows/2006 |access-date=2023-02-14 |website=BRIT Awards |language=en}}</ref> in Earls Court in London.<ref>{{cite news |title=Kaiser Chiefs take the Brits: I predict a riot |date=16 February 2006 |first=Adam |last=Sherwin |page=3 |issue=68,625}}</ref>
The ceremony was hosted by Chris Evans, who also hosted Brit Awards 2005. It lasted about three hours, and the alcohol ban of the previous year had been relaxed. The biggest surprise performance was that from Prince, who reunited with Wendy and Lisa from The Revolution, together with Sheila E. for the performance.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Brandle |first=Lars |date=2016-04-22 |title=Watch Prince Masterfully Perform ‘Purple Rain’ and ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ at 2006 Brit Awards |url=https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/prince-purple-rain-lets-go-crazy-2006-brit-awards-7341608/ |access-date=2023-02-14 |website=Billboard |language=en-US}}</ref><ref>{{cite news |title=Crooner Blunt and the Chiefs are a riot at Brit awards |work=The Daily Telegraph |date=16 February 2006 |first=Hugh |last=Davies}}</ref>

==Controversy== *Some of the more famous British pop acts failed to get a nomination. Bands like Girls Aloud and McFly both had top 10 hits in both the single and album charts but neither were nominated, and Oasis who were eligible, but were snubbed in the category of Best Album, only had 2 nominations.
