In July 1986, Asistio participated in a coup attempt against the Aquino administration at the Manila Hotel.

Asistio married singer Jhoanna "Giji" Garcia on April 21, 1974,<ref name="MSLam"/> and had two children: Adelaide ("Lady") and Alexis.<ref name="INQNepales"/> Giji, as the wife of Mayor Asistio, was noted to have headed the Santacruzan activity in Caloocan and actively engaged in the city's charity projects by the mid-1980s.<ref>{{cite news|last=Japitana|first=Norma|title=Power and lust|work=National Midweek|publisher=Lagda Publishing Inc.|date=December 18, 1985|pages=39–40|quote=Lady, Giji's only daughter with Boy, is about eleven now and about time she had a brother or another sister.}}</ref> The two separated in 1990 due to Asistio's extramarital affairs.<ref name="INQNepales"/>
