==Geology== Boulder Peak is composed of sedimentary rock laid down during the Precambrian to Jurassic periods. Formed in shallow seas, this sedimentary rock was initially uplifted beginning 170 million years ago when the Lewis Overthrust fault pushed an enormous slab of precambrian rocks {{convert|3|mi|km|1|abbr=on}} thick, {{convert|50|mi|km}} wide and {{convert|160|mi|km}} long over younger rock of the cretaceous period.<ref name=gadd>{{citation|title=Geology of the Rocky Mountains and Columbias |author=Gadd, Ben |year=2008}}</ref> thumb|center|350px|East aspect of Boulder Peak seen from Brown Pass
