The '''Bostalsee''' is a reservoir in the municipality of Nohfelden in the northern Saarland. It was created in 1979. The dam has a length of 500 metres. The lake is almost exclusively used for recreation. == Construction == This major tourist project was initiated in the early 1970s by the head of the county council of St. Wendel, Werner Zeyer, who later became the minister president of the Saarland. The long term aim was to strengthen the tourist infrastructure in the county of St. Wendel in order to raise the number of tourists. In addition, the new waterbody was intended to extend the local recreation facilities and improve the ecology.
== Basic data == The lake has a surface area of 120 ha (1.2 km<sup>2</sup>), a volume of 8 million m<sup>3</sup> and maximum depth of 18 metres. It lies at a height of about {{Höhe|400|DE-NN|link=true}} within the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park near {{Coord|49|34|6|N|7|4|19|E|type:waterbody_elevation:400_region:DE-SL_name:Bostalsee}}. It is thus the largest artificial body of water used for recreation in southwest Germany. The lakeside villages are Bosen, Eckelhausen, Gonnesweiler and Neunkirchen/Nahe, and the Bostalsee Leisure Centre is run by the county. == Umgebung – Infrastruktur == Um den See herum führen ein 6,8 km langer Wanderweg und ein 7,2 km langer Radwanderweg, die das touristische Angebot des Freizeitzentrums mit Camping, Segeln, Angeln, Surfen, Tretbootfahren, Schlittschuhlaufen, Beachvolleyball und Strandbad ergänzen. Der Betrieb von Motorbooten (mit Ausnahme weniger Elektroboote und Motorboote der Wasserrettung) ist auf dem See untersagt. Der See ist der Endpunkt der in St. Wendel beginnenden Straße der Skulpturen. Die nächstgelegene Stadt ist St. Wendel.
Das 1979 errichtete Wellenhallenbad „Bosaarium“ wurde 2004 zu einer Veranstaltungshalle umgebaut. Seit dem 26. November 2011 befindet sich in der Halle ein Indoor-Spielplatz.
== Ferienpark == Das französische Unternehmen Pierre et Vacances baute mit seinem Tochterunternehmen Center Parcs und in Kooperation mit verschiedenen öffentlichen Trägern einen Ferienpark am Seeufer zwischen Gonnesweiler und Eckelhausen. Zunächst sollte der Park unter dem Label „Sunpark“ vermarktet werden. Mit Baubeginn im Frühjahr 2011 wurde bekannt, dass der Ferienpark „Center Parcs – Park Bostalsee“ heißen wird. Der Park wurde im Juli 2013 eröffnet und besteht aus 500 Ferienhäusern in sechs Dörfern sowie einer Zentraleinheit mit Tropenerlebnisbad. Für diese bisher größte Tourismusbaumaßnahme im Südwesten wurden rund 130 Millionen Euro investiert, wobei das Saarland einen Teil dieser Summe im Rahmen der öffentlich-privaten Partnerschaft vorfinanzierte. Durch entsprechende langjährige Pachtverträge mit Center Parcs sollen diese Gelder wieder zurückgezahlt werden. Insgesamt sind etwa 300 Arbeitsplätze entstanden. -->
