'''Boopathy Pandian''' is an Indian Tamil film director.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-2/top-directors/directors-25-21.html |title=Kollywood's Top 25 Directors – Directors – Vetrimaran Balaji Sakthivel Lingusamy Vasanth Karu Pazhaniappan Simbudevan |website=Behindwoods.com |access-date=6 November 2008}}</ref>
==Career== Bhoopathy Pandian worked as an assistant to Sundar C. Apart from assisting him, he also wrote dialogues for his films ''Winner'' and ''Giri''.
Dhanush signed the film, then titled ''Ennai Mattum Kadhal Pannu'', soon after the success of ''Thulluvadho Ilamai'' and the venture was initially set to star Sherin, who appeared alongside him in that film. Since then, the title and the heroine went through a couple of changes, briefly being referred to as ''Kadhal Sughamanathu'' and then finally as ''Devathayai Kanden'', after the popular song of Dhanush-starrer ''Kadhal Kondein''. Sridevi Vijayakumar replaced Sherin as heroine in the film.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://forums.bizhat.com/movie-talk/53-movie-previews-thendral.html |title=Movie previews - Thendral|work=Bizhat |access-date=2012-03-22 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131108054948/http://forums.bizhat.com/movie-talk/53-movie-previews-thendral.html |archive-date=8 November 2013 |df=dmy-all }}</ref>
The film was announced in late August 2005 with Boopathy Pandian and Dhanush coming together after a previous collaboration in ''Devathayai Kanden'' (2005).<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/16430.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20051130164713/http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/16430.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=30 November 2005|title=Cinema News - Movie Reviews - Movie Trailers - IndiaGlitz}}</ref> Shriya Saran, who rose to fame in Tamil films after her role in ''Mazhai'', was signed as the heroine and the film was titled as ''Naveena Thiruvilayadal'', though the prefix was later dropped.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/16554.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20051203111429/http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/16554.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=3 December 2005|title=Cinema News - Movie Reviews - Movie Trailers - IndiaGlitz}}</ref> In September 2010, actor Sivaji Ganesan's Fan Club issued legal notice to the film's producer, Vimala Geetha, to change the name of the film ''Thiruvilayadal'' within 15 days or face legal action before the necessary forum. They had felt that the title was reminiscent of the 1965 Sivaji film of the same name, and felt that the new venture would defame the old film.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/17038.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20051130161355/http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/17038.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=30 November 2005|title=Cinema News - Movie Reviews - Movie Trailers - IndiaGlitz}}</ref> K. However, in January 2006, Boopathy Pandian confirmed that the film would continue and the remaining portions would be swiftly completed.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/20049.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060514191930/http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/20049.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=14 May 2006|title=Cinema News - Movie Reviews - Movie Trailers - IndiaGlitz}}</ref> Shriya however returned to work on the film after she was able to allot dates.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.sify.com/movies/is-shriya-on-a-contract-news-tamil-kkfvilidcji.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140129140803/http://www.sify.com/movies/is-shriya-on-a-contract-news-tamil-kkfvilidcji.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=2014-01-29|title=Is Shriya on a contract?|website=Sify }}</ref>
The film opened in December 2006 to positive reviews from critics. In early 2008, Boopathy Pandian first announced a project titled ''Naanum En Sandhyavum'' (''Me and my Sandhya''), with which he was planning to introduce his younger sibling Arjun Prabhu as an actor.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/37643.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080405235858/http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/37643.html |url-status=dead |archive-date=5 April 2008 |title=Meera Nandhan to open at Kollywood |website=IndiaGlitz |access-date=26 June 2010}}</ref><ref name="behindwoods2">{{cite web|url=http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movie-news-1/mar-08-03/meera-17-03-08.html |title=One more import from God's own land |website=Behindwoods.com |access-date=26 June 2010}}</ref> He signed him for the lead male role in the film, whilst Malayalam actress Meera Nandan was approached to play the lead female character called Sandhya, for which Kajal Aggarwal, Bhama and Vedhika were also reportedly considered.<ref name="behindwoods2"/><ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movie-news-1/apr-08-01/vedhika-03-04-08.html |title=Vedhika on Silamabarasan and others |website=Behindwoods.com |access-date=26 June 2010}}</ref> Yuvan Shankar Raja was announced as the music director for film.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/48906.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090813101214/http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/48906.html |url-status=dead |archive-date=13 August 2009 |title=Eight at a time for Yuvan! |website=IndiaGlitz |access-date=26 June 2010}}</ref> Following the announcement, however, there were no more news or any further details disclosed in the media and the film got shelved.
In early 2010 then, reports claimed that the director had completed a film titled ''Naan Avalai Sandhitha Pozhudhu'' (''When I met her''), starring newcomers and featuring Yuvan Shankar Raja's music.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://musicmazaa.com/cinema/tamil/news/buzz-on-vikram-bhoopathy-pandian-film.html |title=MusicMazaa.com |publisher=MusicMazaa.com |date=23 March 2010 |access-date=26 June 2010}}</ref> Boopathy Pandian had restarted the projects, changing its title and replacing the lead couple by two relatively unknown artists; Balaji Balakrishnan, who starred in the popular STAR Vijay television series ''Kana Kaanum Kaalangal'' and also appeared in the N. Linguswamy-produced 2009 film ''Pattalam'', was signed as the male protagonist, whilst Meghana Raj, daughter of actors Sunderraj and Pramila, who was also earlier signed by K. Following a successful collaboration with the 2007 film ''Malaikottai'', Vishal and Boopathy Pandian signed terms to make another film together in 2010.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/53820.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100128082709/http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/53820.html |url-status=dead |archive-date=28 January 2010 |title=Vishal, Boopathi Pandian come together again |website=IndiaGlitz |date=25 January 2010 |access-date=18 August 2013}}</ref> Boopathy Pandian subsequently moved on to make a film titled ''Vedi'' with Vikram in the lead role, but the film was cancelled after an initial schedule.<ref name="kollyinsider1">{{cite web|author=Rajkumar S |url=http://www.kollyinsider.com/2010/11/vikrams-vedi-is-vishals-pattathu-yaanai.html |title=Vikram's 'Vedi' Is Vishal's 'Pattathu Yaanai'|publisher=Kollyinsider |date=1 November 2010 |access-date=18 August 2013}}</ref> In November 2010, it was reported that Pandian and Vishal would make another film under the Vishal's home banner, GK Films Corporation, in a venture titled ''Pattathu Yaanai'' and that it would feature the story that Pandian had planned for Vikram in his project ''Vedi''.<ref name="kollyinsider1"/> In a turn of events, the director decided to opt out of the project and do the film instead with Arya and his banner, Show People.
