The Sisters of Bon Secours came to the United States from France in 1881 to establish a health care ministry in Baltimore, Maryland. Founded in 1931, the Sisters of Mercy arrived in the United States from Ireland at the invitation of the Bishop of Pittsburgh. The Sisters of the Humility of Mary were established in 1858 in Dommartin-sous-Amance, France and came to the US at the invitation of Bishop Amadeus Rapp of Cleveland in 1864. In 2018, offshoots of these three organizations - the Marriottsville, Maryland-based Bon Secours Health System and the Cincinnati-based Mercy Health merged.
