==Fauna== [[Bearded seal]], [[bowhead whale]], [[harbor seal]], [[narwhal]], [[polar bear]], [[ringed seal]], [[walrus]], and [[beluga (whale)|white whale]] frequent the area.<ref name="iba" />

Boas River and associated wetlands is a Canadian [[Important Bird Area]], site #NU022 ({{coord|63.75|-85.66|region:CA-NU_type:landmark_scale:100000|name=Bird Area #NU022 (Boas River)}}). The elevation varies from {{convert|0|m|abbr=on}} to {{convert|60|m|abbr=on}} [[above mean sea level|above sea level]]. The IBA is {{convert|5402|km2|abbr=on}} in size. The [[Ikkattuaq Migratory Bird Sanctuary]] encompasses one third of the IBA's western portion.<ref name="iba" />

This is a notable breeding area for the [[snow goose|lesser snow goose]]. ==History== The area was populated by [[Sadlermiut]] until the early 20th century when they were wiped out by an epidemic.<ref name="Johnsgard" />
