He was made a [[Referendary]] by [[Pope Nicholas V]], who admitted him to the [[Apostolic Palace]].<ref name="bare_url" /> Nicholas later made him [[Auditor (ecclesiastical)|auditor]] of the [[Roman Rota]].<ref name="bare_url" />

He was elected [[Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Spoleto-Norcia|Bishop of Spoleto]] on 13 November 1448.<ref name="bare_url" /> He served as [[Vicar]] of Rome during the pontificates of Pope Nicholas V and [[Pope Callixtus III]].<ref name="bare_url" /> He later became a [[regent]] of the [[Chancery of Apostolic Briefs|Apostolic Chancellery]].<ref name="bare_url" />

In the [[Papal consistory|consistory]] celebrated in [[Siena]] on 5 March 1460, [[Pope Pius II]] made him a [[cardinal priest]].<ref name="bare_url" /> He received the [[Galero|red hat]] on 8 March 1460 and the [[titular church]] of [[Santa Sabina]] on 19 March 1460.<ref name="bare_url" />

He was appointed [[Papal legate#Legatus a Latere|legate ''a latere'']] to [[Perugia]], leaving for the city on 27 August 1462.<ref name="bare_url" /> He rejoined Pope Pius II at [[Terni]] in June 1464 and accompanied the pope to [[Ancona]].<ref name="bare_url" /> He did not participate in the [[1464 papal conclave|papal conclave of 1464]] that elected [[Pope Paul II]].<ref name="bare_url" />

In August 1465, Eroli, along with Cardinals Basilios Bessarion and [[Juan Carvajal (cardinal)|Juan Carvajal]] was part of a commission sent to the [[Kingdom of Bohemia]] to regulate its affairs.<ref name="bare_url" />

On 3 January 1466 he was elected [[List of Camerlengos of the Sacred College of Cardinals|Camerlengo of the Sacred College of Cardinals]].<ref name="bare_url" /> He was reelected to a second term on 24 January 1467.<ref name="bare_url" />

He participated in the [[1471 papal conclave|papal conclave of 1471]] that elected [[Pope Sixtus IV]].<ref name="bare_url" /> He opted to become a [[Cardinal (Catholic Church)|cardinal bishop]], receiving the [[Roman Catholic Suburbicarian Diocese of Sabina–Poggio Mirteto|suburbicarian see of Sabina]] on 23 May 1474.<ref name="bare_url" /> He again served as Vicar of Rome in 1475.<ref name="bare_url" />

He died in Rome on 2 April 1479.<ref name="bare_url" /> He is buried in [[St. Peter's Basilica]].<ref name="bare_url" />
