==Original proposal== thumb|left|One of the early proposals for Bay Pointe, Cardiff Originally based on an apartment scheme, it would have been one of a number of high-rise developments in Cardiff, which include the Glass Needle and Meridian Gate in Cardiff city centre. The original proposal included 1,800 apartments including a 33-storey tower that would have been the tallest in Cardiff and Wales at 403 ft (122.8m);<ref>{{cite news|url=https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/7268025.stm|title=Wales' tallest building approved|publisher=BBC News|date=28 February 2008|access-date=30 June 2018}}</ref> it was estimated that some apartments could have had a price of £1,000,000.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/homes/0100newsandfeatures/page.cfm?headline=bay-pointe-to-transform-cardiff-bay-skyline&method=full&objectid=19232429&siteid=50082&tmExt=html|title=Bay Pointe to transform Cardiff Bay skyline|date=2 June 2007|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110605061225/http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/homes/0100newsandfeatures/page.cfm?headline=bay-pointe-to-transform-cardiff-bay-skyline&method=full&objectid=19232429&siteid=50082&tmExt=html|archivedate=5 June 2011|accessdate=2 March 2008|url-status=dead}}</ref>

As part of the Cardiff International Sports Village, it was hoped the project could be completed in time for Cardiff's role in hosting event of the London 2012 Olympics.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.skyscrapernews.com/news.php?ref=480|title=Atkins Release Cardiff Bay Pointe Images|publisher=Skyscraper News|date=14 November 2005|accessdate=30 June 2018}}</ref>

==New plans== In December 2008, the Western Mail reported that the 33-storey tower was unlikely to ever be built, and the scheme will be replaced by one consisting of townhouses and larger apartment blocks.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2008/12/20/cardiff-s-bay-point-skyscraper-plans-bite-the-dust-91466-22516466/|title=Cardiff's Bay Point skyscraper plans bite the dust|author=David James|publisher=Wales Online|date=20 December 2008|accessdate=30 June 2018}}</ref> In August 2009, Chris Hamilton, managing director of developer Bay Pointe Ltd, said the market from customers and in terms of funding had disappeared for big developments made up of apartments. A planning proposal was to be resubmitted based on townhouses.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/8218188.stm|title=Plans for tallest tower scrapped|publisher=BBC News|date=24 August 2009|access-date=30 June 2018}}</ref>
