[ref. 12713] ''Poissons III. Téléostéens Malacoptérygiens. Résultats scientifique. Expédition océanographic belge dans les eaux côtières africaines de l'Atlantique sud (1948–1949).'' Bruxelles. v. 4 (no. 2): 1–258, Pls. 1–8.</ref> It is a marine, deep water-dwelling eel which is known from Mauritania to Angola, in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. It dwells at a depth range of 200–400 metres. Males can reach a maximum total length of 39 centimetres.<ref name="Fishbase"/>
