The club competes in Danish 3rd Division, the fourth tier of the Danish football league system, and plays its home games at the Lollands Bank Park.

==History== ===Mergers (1994–2013)=== Nykøbing FC was formed on 1 July 2013 by a merger of regional teams {{ill|Nykøbing Falster Boldklub af 1901|da|lt=B.1901}} and {{ill|Boldklubben af 1921 (Nykøbing Falster)|da|lt=B.1921}}. The move was initiated with the goal of developing youth football in Guldborgsund Kommune in order to strengthen the first team and thereby retain divisional status.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://nykobingfc.com/om-nfc/historie/nykoebing-fc/|title=Historie – Nykøbing FC|website=www.nykobingfc.com|language=da|access-date=2 February 2020}}</ref> Before taking the name ''Nykøbing FC'', the club was known as ''Nykøbing Falster Alliancen'' (NFA), which was also a superstructure between B.1901 and B.1921 founded on 1 January 1994. Later on, between 2006 and 2013, this club also went under the name ''Lolland Falster Alliancen'' (LFA).<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://nykobingfc.com/om-nfc/historie/lolland-falster-alliancen/|title=About NFC: History – Lolland Falster Alliancen|website=www.nykobingfc.com|language=da|access-date=21 January 2019}}</ref>

Lolland Falster Alliancen had, before the foundation of Nykøbing FC, had a tumultuous existence between the second tier and third tier. On 18 June 2006, their 4–3 defeat to Lyngby Boldklub in the last game of the season resulted in relegation to the third tier, after having spent three years in the second tier.<ref name=Nedrykning>{{cite news |last=Scheuermann |first=Frederik |title=15. ===''Superliga 2020'' and 2030 strategy (2015–present)=== In 2015, two years after the merger of B.1901 and B.1921 to form Nykøbing FC, the club launched the ''Superliga 2020'' project with the stated aim of securing promotion to the Danish Superliga by 2020. The initiative coincided with investment from several prominent figures, including chef Claus Meyer, comedian Mick Øgendahl, and former Danish international Claus Jensen, who became major shareholders.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.dr.dk/sporten/fodbold/kendt-trekloever-poster-millioner-i-nykoebing-fc|title=Kendt trekløver poster millioner i Nykøbing FC|trans-title=Famous trio invest millions in Nykøbing FC|publisher=dr.dk|language=da|date=17 May 2015}}</ref><ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.mediano.nu/oversigt/2018/3/6/nykbing-fc-special-2020-planen-er-ikke-et-projekt-det-er-det-frste-skridt-af-mange|title=Nykøbing FC Special: 2020-planen er ikke et "projekt" – det er det første skridt af mange|trans-title=Nykøbing FC Special: The 2020 Plan Is Not a "Project" – It's The First Step of Many|publisher=mediano.nu|language=da|date=7 March 2018}}</ref>

The original plan was revised in 2019, shifting the target to promotion by 2022 while aiming to field a squad composed of at least 50% homegrown players.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.bold.dk/fodbold/nyheder/nykoebing-justerer-sin-vision-superliga-i-2022/|title=Nykøbing justerer sin vision: Superliga i 2022|trans-title=Nykøbing readjust vision: Superliga by 2022|publisher=bold.dk|language=da|date=26 July 2019}}</ref> On 7 January 2020, Claus Jensen expanded his role at the club by taking over as club manager, while Brian Rasmussen became first-team coach.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.bold.dk/fodbold/nyheder/claus-jensen-bliver-manager-i-nykoebing-fc/|title=Claus Jensen bliver manager i Nykøbing FC|trans-title=Claus Jensen becomes manager in Nykøbing FC|publisher=bold.dk|language=da|date=7 January 2020}}</ref>

Nykøbing gained national attention in September 2021 after defeating top-flight side FC Copenhagen 3–0 in the third round of the Danish Cup, widely regarded as a major upset.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Dvinge |first1=Nicolai |title=FCK i kæmpe pokal-ydmygelse – TV 2 |url=https://sport.tv2.dk/fodbold/2021-09-22-fck-i-kaempe-pokal-ydmygelse |website=TV2 Sport |access-date=1 May 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20211121183239/https://sport.tv2.dk/fodbold/2021-09-22-fck-i-kaempe-pokal-ydmygelse |archive-date=21 November 2021 |language=da-DK |date=22 September 2021 |url-status=live}}</ref>

In January 2025, Nykøbing appointed former Danish international Mikkel Thygesen as head coach, succeeding Claus Jensen following Thygesen's tenure at Roskilde.<ref>{{cite web |title=Mikkel Thygesen er ny cheftræner i Nykøbing FC |url=https://nykobingfc.com/mikkel-thygesen-er-ny-cheftraener-i-nykoebing-fc/ |website=Nykøbing FC |access-date=20 April 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250114140412/https://nykobingfc.com/mikkel-thygesen-er-ny-cheftraener-i-nykoebing-fc/ |archive-date=14 January 2025 |language=da-DK |date=6 January 2025}}</ref> Despite the managerial change, the club continued to struggle in the 2024–25 Danish 2nd Division, finishing 12th in the regular season and entering the relegation round.<ref>{{cite news |last1=Krøll |first1=Rasmus |last2=Brandsen |first2=Mads |last3=Keldorff |first3=Peter Starup |title=Rokade skal redde klub fra nedrykning |url=https://www.tv2east.dk/guldborgsund/rokade-skal-redde-klub-fra-nedrykning |access-date=20 April 2025 |work=TV2 ØST |date=11 January 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250117124942/https://www.tv2east.dk/guldborgsund/rokade-skal-redde-klub-fra-nedrykning |archive-date=17 January 2025 |language=da}}</ref><ref>{{cite news |last1=Jensen |first1=Thomas Lærke |title=Fansene er helt klar til første kamp: - NFC redder sig fri af nedrykning |url=https://folketidende.dk/sport/fansene-er-helt-klar-til-foerste-kamp-nfc-redder-sig-fri-af-nedrykning |access-date=20 April 2025 |work=Lolland Falsters Folketidende |date=7 March 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250307133749/https://folketidende.dk/sport/fansene-er-helt-klar-til-foerste-kamp-nfc-redder-sig-fri-af-nedrykning |archive-date=7 March 2025 |language=da}}</ref>

Amid the relegation battle, the club unveiled its "2030 Strategy" in April 2025—a long-term plan focused on building a sustainable and competitive foundation. The initiative outlines goals in areas such as sporting performance, financial stability, youth development, community engagement, and international collaboration. As part of the strategy, Nykøbing launched a public share offering to attract local investment, with chairman Rasmus Nagel highlighting the role of regional ownership in preserving the club's identity.<ref>{{cite web |title=NFC Pro præsenterer ny 2030-strategi og igangsætter emission |url=https://nykobingfc.com/nfc-pro-praesenterer-ny-2030-strategi-og-igangsaetter-emission/ |website=Nykøbing FC |access-date=20 April 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250420115411/https://nykobingfc.com/nfc-pro-praesenterer-ny-2030-strategi-og-igangsaetter-emission/ |archive-date=20 April 2025 |language=da-DK |date=2 April 2025}}</ref><ref>{{cite news |last1=Sand |first1=Nicolai |title=Ny 2030-strategi i Nykøbing: Vil lave fem mio. årligt på transfers |url=https://bold.dk/fodbold/klubber/nykoebing-fc/nyheder/ny-2030-strategi-i-nykobing-vil-lave-fem-mio-arligt-pa-transfers |access-date=20 April 2025 |work=Bold |date=2 April 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250420115307/https://bold.dk/fodbold/klubber/nykoebing-fc/nyheder/ny-2030-strategi-i-nykobing-vil-lave-fem-mio-arligt-pa-transfers |archive-date=20 April 2025 |language=da}}</ref> The team was afterwards relegated, when they finished last in the relegation table.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://bold.dk/fodbold/klubber/nykoebing-fc/nyheder/thygesen-efter-nykobing-nedrykning-alle-er-kede-af-det|publisher=Bold.dk|title=Thygesen efter Nykøbing-nedrykning: Alle er kede af det|date=16 May 2025|access-date=2 May 2026|language=da}}</ref>
