'''BNS ''Gomati''''' is an {{sclass2|Island|patrol vessel|0}} offshore patrol vessel of the Bangladesh Navy. She was originally built as a Fishery Protection Vessel for the British Royal Navy, entering service as '''HMS ''Anglesey''''' in 1979. She was sold to Bangladesh in 2002, entering service in 2003.
==Design and description== The Island-class was the result in the increase in the United Kingdom's Exclusive economic zone to {{convert|200|nmi|km}}, with a resulting increase in the requirements to patrol fishing grounds and oil fields. After evaluation of the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency's fishery protection vessel ''Jura'', built by the shipbuilders Hall, Russell & Company to a trawler-like design, the Royal Navy ordered five ships of the Island-class, based on ''Jura''{{'}}s design in February 1975, with a further two ships, ''Anglesey'' and {{HMS|Alderney|P278|2}} on 21 October 1977.<ref name="conways47p536-7">{{Harvnb|Preston|1995|pp=536–537}}</ref><ref name="cf86 p198"/>
''Anglesey'' was {{convert|59.5|m|ft}} long overall and {{convert|53.6|m|ft}} at the waterline, with a beam of {{convert|11.0|m|ft}} and a draught of {{convert|4.2|m|ft}}. Displacement was {{convert|1000|t|LT}} normal and {{convert|1280|t|LT}} deep load.<ref name="conways47p537"/> Two Ruston 12 RK 3 CM diesel engines rated at a total of {{convert|4380|bhp|kW|lk=on}} drove a single propeller shaft, giving a speed of {{convert|16|kn}},<ref name="cf86 p198"/> adequate to deal with the majority of trawlers in service in European waters.<ref name="brownp135-6">{{Harvnb |Brown|Moore|2012|pp=135–136}}</ref> Range was {{convert|11000|nmi|lk=in}} at {{convert|12|kn}}.<ref name="cf86 p198"/> The earlier ships of the class had suffered from excessive motions in high seas,<ref name="brownp135-6"/> and so ''Anglesey'' was fitted with fin stabiliser during build.<ref name="conways47p537"/><ref name="cf86 p198"/> Armament consisted of a single Bofors 40 mm gun backed up by two machine guns.<ref name="conways47p537"/> The ship had a crew of 5 officers and 29 other ranks, plus a detachment of Royal Marines if necessary.<ref name="cf86 p198"/>
