== History == [[BLS AG]] ordered 58 trainsets from [[Stadler Rail]] in 2017 at a cost of {{CHF|650 million|link=yes|ISO=yes}}. == Design == Each formation is composed of six cars, with a maximum seating capacity of 275. They can accommodate another 200 standees. Altogether the formation is {{convert|104900|mm|ftin|abbr=on|frac=16}} long. Cars are {{convert|2880|mm|ftin|abbr=on|frac=16}} wide and {{convert|4260|mm|ftin|abbr=on|frac=16}} tall. The design speed is {{convert|160|kph|abbr=on}}. There are different internal layouts for longer-distance trains compared to [[S-Bahn]] trains but they are mechanically identical.<ref name="railvolution" />

Ten BLS RABe 528 are named after [[communes of Switzerland|communes]] in the [[cantons of Switzerland|Swiss cantons]] of [[canton of Bern|Bern]], [[canton of Lucerne|Lucerne]] and [[canton of Neuchâtel|Neuchâtel]], while two additional ones are named after [[communes of Italy|communes]] in the [[regions of Italy|Italian state]] of [[Piedmont]]. Each train bears the commune's [[coat of arms]] (COA) below the driver's window.
