=== Archaeology === {{Main|Auvernier culture}} Auvernier has given its name to the Auvernier culture, an archaeological culture of the Late Neolithic period (2700–2400 BC) that was widespread in Western Switzerland, particularly in the Three Lakes Region.<ref name="HDS2">{{HDS|024667|Auvernier, culture d'}}</ref>
First described in 1969 by Christian Strahm, the culture takes its name from the site of Auvernier - La Saunerie. The Auvernier culture, also considered a regional group of the Saône-Rhône culture of eastern France, shows strong similarities in its pottery with that of the Rhône plain and the eastern French Jura. From around 2735 BC, locally manufactured vessels from the region integrated forms and decorations from Corded Ware pottery, resulting in the Auvernier-Cordé mixed culture. Remains of this culture have been unearthed at many lakeside settlements in the Three Lakes Region, with the Auvernier culture being succeeded by the Bell Beaker culture (2450/2400–2200 BC).<ref name="HDS2" />
