At a height of {{convert|2.08|m|ftin|abbr=on}} tall, he played at the [[center (basketball)|center]] position. He is the most decorated Bulgarian basketball player of all time. He was named one of [[FIBA's 50 Greatest Players (1991)|FIBA's 50 Greatest Players]], in 1991. In 2019, he was inducted into the [[List of members of the FIBA Hall of Fame|FIBA Hall of Fame]].

==College career== Golomeev played [[college basketball]] at [[McGill University]], with the [[McGill Redmen]], in the 1968–69 season.
