Butler published many works on butterflies and moths, but [[Reginald Innes Pocock]] described these as merely "useful".<ref name="Pocock 1926"/> He also published articles on spiders of [[Australia]], the [[Galápagos Islands|Galápagos]], [[Madagascar]], and other places.
