== Biography == === During the Resistance === [[File:Arrigo_Boldrini_Bulow.jpg|thumb|left|Arrigo Boldrini in the Resistance.]] In 1943, Boldrini joined the then clandestine Italian Communist Party and has been one of the main promoters of the Resistance in Romagna.<ref name=rappr>{{cite web|url=http://www.lastoriasiamonoi.rai.it/biografie/arrigo-boldrini/52/default.aspx|title=Arrigo Boldrini - La Storia siamo noi|work=LaStoriaSiamoNoi.Rai.it|access-date=23 October 2018|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20181023160721/http://www.lastoriasiamonoi.rai.it/biografie/arrigo-boldrini/52/default.aspx|archive-date=23 October 2018|url-status=dead}}</ref> During the Resistance, Boldrini was the National Liberation Committee's reference man of Ravenna and leader of the 28th Garibaldi Brigade entitled to the partisan "Mario Gordini".<ref name=rappr/> During the Nazi-Fascist occupation, Boldrini was always at the forefront during the liberation missions in Romagna and was nicknamed ''Bulow'', an homage to Prussian general Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Bülow.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.anpi.it/donne-e-uomini/1551/arrigo-boldrini-bulow|title=Donne e Uomini della Resistenza: Arrigo Boldrini "Bulow"|work=ANPI.it|date=25 July 2010|access-date=23 October 2018}}</ref>

In 1945, some days immediately after the end of the war, his Brigade was still active in an area where had place a massacre of over 130 surrendered RSI soldiers and some former fascist civilians in Codevigo: in the last years he was indicated by revisionist researchers as the principal instigator of the crime,<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.romagnaoggi.it/cronaca/ravenna-attacco-a-boldrini-e-il-boia-di-codevigo.html|title=Ravenna: attacco a Boldrini, "è il boia di Codevigo"|work=RomagnaOggi.it|date=4 December 2008|access-date=23 October 2018}}</ref> but in early post-war investigations Boldrini had already been acquitted of the same charges before trial, as it was demonstrated that the massacre was carried "... outside and against his orders and without his knowledge ...", and it's testified that he was elsewhere in the days of the massacre.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://borgocomunesolidale.it/images/25aprile/ilcomandanteBulow.pdf|work=RomagnaOggi.it|author=Edmondo Montali|title=Il Comandante Bulow" - notes 43 and 50|access-date=9 May 2021|archive-date=9 May 2021|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210509164022/https://borgocomunesolidale.it/images/25aprile/ilcomandanteBulow.pdf|url-status=dead}}</ref>

=== After the War === Boldrini has embodied the ethical and political motives behind the struggle of the Italian Resistance, becoming one of the most authoritative and credible representatives at the institutional level: after being elected to the Constituent Assembly, Boldrini became the first President of the National Association of Italian Partisans, holding this office from 1947 to 2006.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.lastampa.it/2008/01/22/italia/e-morto-a-anni-arrigo-boldrini-storico-comandante-partigiano-tWCrpcXvF5FsKeQeyFaGOK/pagina.html|title=E' morto a 92 anni Arrigo Boldrini, storico comandante partigiano|work=La Stampa|date=22 January 2008|access-date=23 October 2018}}</ref>

Boldrini was later elected to the Chamber of Deputies from 1948 to 1972 and to the Senate from 1972 to 1992, being a member of the Parliament uninterruptedly from 1948 to 1994.<ref name=rappr/>

In 1991, Boldrini joined the Democratic Party of the Left, and in 1998 he joined the Democrats of the Left until he decided to leave politics in 2005.

He died in his hometown Ravenna on 22 January 2008, at the age of 92.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.repubblica.it/2008/01/sezioni/cronaca/boldrini-morto/boldrini-morto/boldrini-morto.html|title=Morto il partigiano Boldrini, lo storico "comandante Bulow"|work=La Repubblica|date=22 January 2008|access-date=23 October 2018}}</ref>
