'''''Argyrodendron''''' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Malvaceae. Species of ''Argyrodendron'' are found in Indonesia, New Guinea, the Philippines and Australia.<ref name="POWO" />
==Description== Plants in the genus ''Argyrodendron'' are tall trees, usually with buttress roots, the new growth and leaves often covered with shield-shaped scales. The leaves are usually palmately compound with 3 to 9 leaflets. The flowers are arranged in panicles in leaf axils with either male or female flowers. The sepals are cup-shaped with 5 lobes and white or cream-coloured, but there are no petals. Female flowers have 3 to 5 sessile carpels each with a single ovule, joined styles and 15 staminodes at the base. The fruit is a winged samara with a more or less spherical nut at the base.<ref name="RBGS">{{cite web |last1=Harden |first1=Gwen J. |last2=Conn |first2=Barry J. |title=Genus ''Argyrodendron'' |url=https://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/NSWfl.pl?page=nswfl&showsyn=&dist=&constat=&lvl=gn&name=Argyrodendron |publisher=Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney |access-date=29 June 2024}}</ref>
==Taxonomy== The genus ''Argyrodendron'' was first formally described in 1858 by Ferdinand von Mueller in his ''Fragmenta Phytographiae Australiae'' and the first species he described (the type species) was ''A. trifoliatum''.<ref name="APNI">{{cite web |title=''Argyrodendron'' |url=https://biodiversity.org.au/nsl/services/rest/instance/apni/526990 |publisher=Australian Plant Name Index |access-date=29 June 2024}}</ref><ref name="F.Muell.">{{cite book |last1=von Mueller |first1=Ferdinand |title=Fragmenta Phytographiae Australiae |volume=1 |date=1858 |publisher=Victorian Government Printer |location=Melbourne |page=2 |url=https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/7218#page/4/mode/1up |access-date=29 June 2024}}</ref> The genus name is derived from ancient Greek ''argros'' meaning "silver" and ''dendron'' meaning "a tree", referring to the silvery underside of the leaves.<ref name="Floyd">{{cite book |last1=Floyd |first1=Alex G. |title=Rainforest Trees of Mainland South-eastern Australia |date=1989 |publisher=Inkata Press |location=Lismore |page=387}}</ref>
