== Early life and education == Mapp completed her Bachelor of the Arts (B.A.) in chemistry at Bryn Mawr college. She continued her graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She completed her Ph.D. under the supervision of Clayton H. Heathcock in 1997.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://academictree.org/chemistry/peopleinfo.php?pid=55674|title=Chemistry Tree - Clayton H. Heathcock|website=academictree.org|access-date=2019-01-27}}</ref> In the 2000s she continued her postdoctoral studies at Caltech with Peter B. Dervan.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://dervan.caltech.edu/acad_alums.php|title=Dervan Group Alumni in Academic Posts|website=dervan.caltech.edu|access-date=2019-01-27}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=http://dervan.caltech.edu/alumni.php|title=Dervan Group Alumni|website=dervan.caltech.edu|access-date=2019-01-27}}</ref> She then started working at the Department of Chemistry in University of Michigan in 2000 where she is currently serving as a Professor of Chemistry.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web|url=https://www.lsi.umich.edu/profiles/anna-mapp-phd|title=Anna Mapp, Ph.D.|date=2018-02-21|website=Life Sciences Institute|language=en|access-date=2019-01-27}}</ref>
== Research == Mapp's research group employs synthetic tools to study biological systems to understand how genes are regulated. The group identifies key protein-protein interactions vital for gene activation in yeast (S. cerevisiae). Their main goal is to develop drugs that can re-wire gene expression in diseased cells while leaving the rest intact. Much of her and her groups research focuses upon developing a molecular-level picture of inducible gene expression in eukaryotes using organic molecules as mechanistic probes. <ref>https://www.lsi.umich.edu/science/our-labs/mapp-lab/research</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.lsi.umich.edu/profiles/anna-mapp-phd|title=Anna Mapp, Ph.D.|date=2018-02-21|website=Life Sciences Institute|language=en|access-date=2019-01-28}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=https://lsa.umich.edu/chem/people/faculty/amapp.html|title=Anna Mapp {{!}} U-M LSA Chemistry|website=lsa.umich.edu|access-date=2019-01-28}}</ref><ref name=":2">{{Cite web|url=https://www.lsi.umich.edu/science/our-labs/mapp-lab/research|title=Research|date=2018-02-21|website=Life Sciences Institute|language=en|access-date=2019-01-28}}</ref>
