'''''Anisotes''''' is a genus of Afrotropical plants in the family Acanthaceae. The genus is morphologically similar to ''Metarungia'', from which it differs mainly in the dehiscence of the fruit capsule, and the nature of the placenta.<ref name=kb>{{cite journal |last1=Darbyshire |first1=Iain |last2=Vollesen |first2=Kaj |last3=Chapman |first3=Hazel M. |title=A remarkable range disjunction recorded in Metarungia pubinervia (Acanthaceae) |journal=Kew Bulletin |date=23 January 2009 |volume=63 |issue=4 |pages=613–615 |doi=10.1007/s12225-008-9073-3 |s2cid=40176831 }}</ref> Placentas (with attached retinacula) remain attached to the inner surface of fruit capsules in ''Anisotes''.<ref name=cas>{{cite web|last1=Daniel |first1=Thomas F. |title=Anisotes (Acanthaceae) in Madagascar |url=http://researcharchive.calacademy.org/research/curators/pdfs/anisotes_in_madagascar.pdf |publisher=California Academy of Sciences |access-date=22 July 2014|display-authors=etal}}</ref>
They favour sandy ground or tropical to subtropical dry forest. The corolla consists of a two-lipped flower that is orange to red in colour. Four seeds are produced in a woody fruit capsule.<ref name=flz>{{cite web|last1=Hyde |first1=M. |title=Anisotes Nees |url=http://www.zimbabweflora.co.zw/speciesdata/genus.php?genus_id=1359|publisher=Flora of Zimbabwe |access-date=22 July 2014|display-authors=etal}}</ref> Two of the six Madagascar species, ''A. hygroscopicus'' and ''A. venosus'', are unique in the genus in having hygroscopic trichomes on their seeds.<ref name=jbn>{{cite journal |last1=Daniel |first1=Thomas F. |last2=Letsara |first2=Rokiman |last3=Martín-Bravo |first3=Santiago |title=Four New Species of Anisotes (Acanthaceae) from Madagascar (Acanthaceae) from Madagascar |journal=Novon: A Journal for Botanical Nomenclature |date=18 October 2013 |volume=22 |issue=4 |pages=396–408 |doi=10.3417/2012054 |s2cid=86270678 |url=https://zenodo.org/record/894494 |doi-access=free }}</ref>
