==Biography== He was born in [[Sola (village)|Sole]] (in the old [[Håland Municipality]]) as a son of bailiff Enok Torgersen and Elen Røgh Skavlan. In 1864 he married Lina Monsen,<ref name=hvem>[https://runeberg.org/hvemerhvem/1912/0184.html ''Hvem er hvem?'' 1912]</ref> whose brother was a locally known painter<ref>{{cite encyclopedia|year=|title=M.G. He served as Mayor of [[Stavanger (city)|Stavanger]] from 1893. He was elected to the [[Parliament of Norway]] in [[1894 Norwegian parliamentary election|1894]],<ref name=stolav>{{cite book |title=Den kongelige norske Sankt Olavs Orden |first=O.
