{{short description|Dataset of the European Central Bank}} '''AnaCredit''' is a dataset of the European Central Bank, containing detailed information on individual bank loans in the euro area, harmonised across all member states. “AnaCredit” stands for analytical credit datasets.<ref>{{cite web|title=AnaCredit|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/money/aggregates/anacredit/html/index.en.html|publisher=European Central Bank|accessdate=20 January 2016}}</ref>

The decision by the ECB to go ahead and create what is now known as AnaCredit was made in February 2014.<ref>{{cite web|title=DECISION OF THE EUROPEAN CENTRAL BANK of 24 February 2014 on the organisation of preparatory measures for the collection of granular credit data by the European System of Central Banks|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/ecb/legal/pdf/oj_jol_2014_104_r_0008_en_txt.pdf|publisher=European Central Bank|accessdate=22 January 2016}}</ref>

AnaCredit focuses on the collection of granular credit data to address the main data needs of the ESCB. While some of the data could be also helpful for prudential supervision, AnaCredit is not set up to meet banking supervisory needs, and no specific requirements pertaining to European Banking Supervision are included in the Regulation.<ref>{{cite web|title=Regulation (EU) 2016/867 of the ECB of 18 May 2016 on the collection of granular credit and credit risk data (ECB/2016/13)|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/ecb/legal/date/2016/html/index.en.html?skey=ECB/2016/13|publisher=European Central Bank|accessdate=1 June 2016}}</ref>

Eurozone states are obliged to participate, while Member states of the European Union outside the eurozone can voluntarily participate.<ref>{{cite web|title=Explanatory note on the draft ECB Regulation on the collection of granular credit and credit risk data / Reporting area|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/money/aggregates/anacredit/shared/pdf/explanatory_note.en.pdf|publisher=European Central Bank|accessdate=20 January 2016|page=3}}</ref> Two of the Scandinavian countries: Denmark<ref>{{cite news|title=Nationalbanken varsler nyt kredit-register|url=http://finanswatch.dk/Finansnyt/Pengeinstitutter/article7007775.ece?amp;|accessdate=20 January 2016|publisher=FinansWatch / Ritzau Finans|date=2014-09-08}}</ref> and Sweden<ref>{{cite news|title=Riksbanken kräver mer uppgifter|url=http://www.swedishbankers.se/Sidor/4_Publikationer/02_Bankfokus%20nr%204,%202015/30_Riksbanken%20kr%C3%A4ver%20mer%20uppgifter.aspx|accessdate=20 January 2016|publisher=Svenska Bankföreningen|date=2015-09-16|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160313013151/http://www.swedishbankers.se/Sidor/4_Publikationer/02_Bankfokus%20nr%204,%202015/30_Riksbanken%20kr%C3%A4ver%20mer%20uppgifter.aspx|archive-date=13 March 2016|url-status=dead}}</ref> have announced their intention to do so.

The project was initiated in 2011, and data collection is scheduled to start in September 2018. The final regulation was decided by the ECB's Governing Council on 18 May 2016.

== Reporting population == The following entities are subject to the reporting requirements: * Credit institutions resident in a euro area Member State; * Branches of credit institutions, provided that the branches are resident in a euro area Member State.<ref>{{cite web|title=Explanatory note on the draft ECB Regulation on the collection of granular credit and credit risk data / The reporting population – who has to report?|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/money/aggregates/anacredit/shared/pdf/explanatory_note.en.pdf|publisher=European Central Bank|accessdate=20 January 2016|page=3}}</ref>

=== Derogations ===

The relevant national central bank may grant derogations to small reporting agents in accordance with national criteria. Derogations may be granted by the relevant national central bank provided that the total commitment amount for all derogations in the country concerned does not exceed 2% of the total commitment.

For instance, it is possible that in those Member States in which credits are extended by a large number of relatively small credit institutions the derogations may lead to a large number of small credit institutions being exempted.<ref>{{cite web|title=Explanatory note on the draft ECB Regulation on the collection of granular credit and credit risk data / Derogations|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/money/aggregates/anacredit/shared/pdf/explanatory_note.en.pdf|publisher=European Central Bank|accessdate=20 January 2016|page=6}}</ref>

== Reported credits == Only credits extended to legal entities and other entities that are not natural persons fall under the scope of the data collection.

Loans and deposits are the only instruments that will be considered, with credit derivatives and off-balance-sheet items being excluded from the scope of the regulation.<ref>{{cite web|title=Explanatory note on the draft ECB Regulation on the collection of granular credit and credit risk data / The scope of AnaCredit – which credits are subject to reporting?|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/money/aggregates/anacredit/shared/pdf/explanatory_note.en.pdf|publisher=European Central Bank|accessdate=20 January 2016|page=4}}</ref>

Loans and deposits include: * deposits other than reverse repurchase agreements * overdrafts * credit card debt * revolving credit other than overdrafts and credit card debt * credit lines other than revolving credit * reverse repurchase agreements * trade receivables * financial leases * other loans

=== Reporting threshold === A given instrument has to be reported if it is held by a debtor whose total commitment amount for all relevant instruments equals or exceeds €25,000 at the reporting reference date. In such cases, every single credit instrument of the debtor is subject to reporting, even if the commitment amount of an individual instrument does not exceed the threshold.<ref>{{cite web|title=Explanatory note on the draft ECB Regulation on the collection of granular credit and credit risk data / Applying a reporting threshold|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/money/aggregates/anacredit/shared/pdf/explanatory_note.en.pdf|publisher=European Central Bank|accessdate=20 January 2016|page=5}}</ref>

=== Reporting frequency === The frequency of reporting is monthly or quarterly dependent on data set.<ref>{{cite web|title=Explanatory note on the draft ECB Regulation on the collection of granular credit and credit risk data / Reporting types and frequency|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/money/aggregates/anacredit/shared/pdf/explanatory_note.en.pdf|publisher=European Central Bank|page=8}}</ref>

== First reporting == The first reporting to AnaCredit relates to data for 30 September 2018 and covers both data reported monthly and data reported quarterly.<ref>{{cite web|title=Explanatory note on the draft ECB Regulation on the collection of granular credit and credit risk data / 4.11 First reporting|url=https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/money/aggregates/anacredit/shared/pdf/explanatory_note.en.pdf|publisher=ECB|accessdate=5 February 2016|page=9}}</ref>
