Since there was only one mobile carrier in the Bahamas previously, mobile number portability was not introduced until April 2017.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Mobile Number Portability Update - Cellular Liberalisation Task Force - Government|url=https://www.bahamas.gov.bs/wps/portal/public/cltf%20news/mobile%20number%20portability%20update/!ut/p/b1/vZTbkqJIEIafpR-Apoozl6hQIFCcjzeGKCCKogIiPP3aE7MRPbvR9kbsjJVXFfFn_JVfZhaZkjGZnta3qlx3VXNa1x_3lFs5M-B4hkhLgiGxQGJCTTMwD_iAfgiShwB8cSTwI58GyJQkRjARCzigBbYh2bxKWTpFRmSsBtBYtFopG0A_jkzGzTdRfef2dFqeF7Oolhh0vne9EWfQpg-bfrNX5coVx6xzcnoL5aRy-1onkrnXTsjUXE27laEwOIWkUgfHXeTOIW4FBWWFsgWrW4o1tNXsMVgRxkUaGk7smkCP1mh92hNVhdNk6UNbQEhpbgWn-Cia6sJPim2jK9A0zlQ3s0BfE6eu7wO1ykKO6bbsmiu6u1giUCc_mTwp-hkTyH6Tz4D_l_8Q_KeefiFwlW_zIzJ9-sSPCn4Ino3Nd4OTPn2Fxj8XfFSB1eaYk8lDxn8y8kMANAgk14MOEDAkfTIGzMrbj2dtOkzuHgwjnrbY800ApgD4i9jDmQzabg5NGS6hDEZTZkbfVwwPHCgPG_Y2dIOZNCcseX39p6FF-eLDcA45PWCBB5g_bYhYS3ig5H1bYimALPhqQ_qlSJFtgT9e4S9Dwzi_v4dLMq2y4_uwOb6Dd0HkIMsLjChwgGEEngz3CeAXgjbImr2atz0WEXt0QDUISpk4uzzomo2ne0TtQpuw13K7lycik1tKvw7pIXNmUnWpsZFNviuIwLpvkaZ4-9J2Gjk29ElxVAYPMhrioxSEwDqON4IgrHTeHUsc97tzrubL4BQS63hip0tuMzR922WHEW14aJtJR4UpsW1p2ouK1qU4X7kiyLiKVySx72-KFtmXbofLt7efYL_aavPfo8O7Jj4MEBupBmVoYPnk4-Bw90XvAbYZ4QM2NqQB7zdDu58Z3vZvsAuH5fP6G0OZerUhfLUh_2LD4NVIg9-P9JdthBzFcwBAmmUeaynS1GMdA47PWnNY2ENouE22zvnIdldlWh2a3ZpbBhetBKE6ilRkNseWp3NluPJzWQQUvBXXhmGnydWPm3bnFDwTXwVDgX1xZmZOKGLbuXswalHFqH3UJcV8HIvb1Njn5e5Kla22enx4M-gPJWtKrHewmvjOhtmZyhuCjbJ-UzkTRzSX6aa0vuk3XM20XHoGMxdrKsXexDJerCjW9nXcUYhuOLRY2L5az3a0Pl9uUH-FTuwF7Y3odkRsbTMipzPOWoT88Eaej8FN13WDc2VXwMWnYK-fovwL6bgKtw!!/dl4/d5/L2dBISEvZ0FBIS9nQSEh/|website=www.bahamas.gov.bs|access-date=2020-05-26}}</ref>

BTC Bahamas and Aliv have a roaming agreement which allows customers of either telecommunications provider to use their phone when out of range of the primary providers cellular tower, but within range of the roaming provider's tower. Roaming may or may not incur charges for the cellular subscriber. In the case of BTC and Aliv, customers do not incur roaming charges though the agreements did not appear to not have been completely finalized as of 2019.<ref>{{Cite web|title=BTC and Aliv still finalizing terms of post-Dorian roaming agreement|url=https://ewnews.com/btc-and-aliv-still-finalizing-terms-of-post-dorian-roaming-agreement|date=2019-09-16|website=EyeWitness News|language=en-US|access-date=2020-05-12}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|title=BTC, Aliv working to create shared network|url=https://ewnews.com/aliv-btc-working-to-create-shared-network|date=2019-09-11|website=EyeWitness News|language=en-US|access-date=2020-05-12}}</ref>

Aliv has been a fast growing alternative to BTC Bahamas,<ref>{{Cite web|title=Aliv: 'Growth at all costs' has finished|url=http://www.tribune242.com/news/2019/jul/24/aliv-growth-at-all-costs-has-finished/|website=www.tribune242.com|language=en|access-date=2020-05-12}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|title=Aliv: We're gaining what BTC's losing|url=http://www.tribune242.com/news/2018/aug/29/aliv-were-gaining-what-btcs-losing/|website=www.tribune242.com|language=en|access-date=2020-05-12}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|title=Aliv now over 170,000 customers, with 37 per cent estimated revenue share|url=https://ewnews.com/aliv-now-over-170000-customers-with-37-per-cent-estimated-revenue-share|date=2019-11-12|website=EyeWitness News|language=en-US|access-date=2020-05-12}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|title=BTC loses 60,000 mobile subscribers|url=http://www.tribune242.com/news/2018/feb/26/btc-loses-60000-mobile-subscribers/|website=www.tribune242.com|language=en|access-date=2020-05-12}}</ref> initially providing service in Nassau / New Providence island and then expanding to what are known as "The Family Islands" or Out Islands in the remainder of the Bahamian archipelago. It has been regarded by some as a more reliable telecommunications provider than BTC Bahamas, especially during Hurricane Dorian.<ref>{{Cite web|title="Really bad scene": Witnesses describe destruction, death in Bahamas|url=https://www.fox13news.com/news/really-bad-scene-witnesses-describe-destruction-death-in-bahamas|last=Holton|first=Jennifer|date=2019-09-03|website=FOX 13 News|language=en-US|access-date=2020-05-12}}</ref>

Miss Bahamas partnered with Aliv in 2017.

There has been some controversy over Aliv's use of BTC Bahamas controlling shareholder, Liberty Global, as names of some of Aliv's service plans.<ref>{{Cite web|title=BTC: Aliv taking 'Liberty' on name|url=http://www.tribune242.com/news/2017/apr/03/btc-aliv-taking-liberty-name/|website=www.tribune242.com|language=en|access-date=2020-05-13}}</ref>
