==Career== Lewis began as a [[staff writer]] at the ''[[Chicago Times]]'', and eventually became editor of the ''[[Chicago Times-Herald]]''.<ref name="spartacus"/> By the late 19th century he was writing [[muckraker]] articles for ''[[Cosmopolitan (magazine)|Cosmopolitan]]''.
