'''Alfred-Faure''' or '''Port Alfred''' is a permanent French scientific station on Île de la Possession (Possession Island) of the subantarctic Crozet Archipelago of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands in the South Indian Ocean.
==Research station== The station is located at the eastern end of the island on a plateau 143 m (460 ft) above sea level. Depending on the season, there are 15 to 60 personnel living and working at the base. Their scientific work includes meteorological, seismic, biological and geological research. It was first established during the {{Linktext|austral}} summer of 1963–1964, replacing a temporary scientific base built in 1961. The new station was named after Alfred Faure, the site's leader in the early 1960s. Alfred-Faure is visited a few times a year by the ''Marion Dufresne'', an oceanographic research vessel which delivers supplies and rotating crews of scientists. There is a 1.6 km road that connects the research station to the coast.<ref name="epb">{{cite web |url= https://data.europeanpolarboard.org/stations/?no_cache=1&tx_infradatabase_stations%5Bcode%5D=CO1101&tx_infradatabase_stations%5Baction%5D=stationinfo&tx_infradatabase_stations%5Bcontroller%5D=Frontend&cHash=3a5b4d5da072675b801871f5af58aeaf |title= Alfred Faure Station|author=<!--Not stated-->|date=2023|website= EPB - Stations|publisher=European Polar Board |access-date= 2023-10-26}}</ref>

==Climate== Alfred Faure Station has a very mild tundra climate (Koppen ''ET'') with cool to cold summers and cold (but still averaging above freezing) winters. Due to its oceanic location near the subpolar low, it has a very cloudy and rainy climate with just 600 hours of bright sunshine per year (one of the lowest in the world) and over 70 inches (1750 mm) of rain a year. Similar to other subpolar oceanic islands in the southern hemisphere it is also very windy (especially because of the ocean being effectively flat terrain). {{Weather box | location = Alfred Faure (1981–2010) | metric first = yes | single line = yes | Jan record high C = 22.4 | Feb record high C = 21.7 | Mar record high C = 21.2 | Apr record high C = 19.7 | May record high C = 16.5 | Jun record high C = 16.0 | Jul record high C = 14.9 | Aug record high C = 16.4 | Sep record high C = 15.4 | Oct record high C = 17.5 | Nov record high C = 19.7 | Dec record high C = 20.7 | year record high C = 22.4 | Jan high C = 10.4 | Feb high C = 11.0 | Mar high C = 10.1 | Apr high C = 9.1 | May high C = 7.2 | Jun high C = 6.1 | Jul high C = 6.0 | Aug high C = 5.4 | Sep high C = 5.8 | Oct high C = 6.8 | Nov high C = 7.8 | Dec high C = 9.2 | year high C = 7.9 | Jan mean C = 7.5 | Feb mean C = 8.1 | Mar mean C = 7.4 | Apr mean C = 6.5 | May mean C = 4.9 | Jun mean C = 3.8 | Jul mean C = 3.7 | Aug mean C = 3.2 | Sep mean C = 3.3 | Oct mean C = 4.1 | Nov mean C = 5.0 | Dec mean C = 6.3 | year mean C = 5.3 | Jan low C = 4.5 | Feb low C = 5.2 | Mar low C = 4.8 | Apr low C = 3.9 | May low C = 2.5 | Jun low C = 1.5 | Jul low C = 1.4 | Aug low C = 0.9 | Sep low C = 0.8 | Oct low C = 1.3 | Nov low C = 2.3 | Dec low C = 3.3 | year low C = 2.7 | Jan record low C = 0.0 | Feb record low C = 0.7 | Mar record low C = −0.4 | Apr record low C = -1.7 | May record low C = -2.5 | Jun record low C = -3.7 | Jul record low C = -5.0 | Aug record low C = -4.7 | Sep record low C = -6.6 | Oct record low C = -3.9 | Nov record low C = -2.8 | Dec record low C = −1.9 | year record low C = −6.6 | precipitation colour = green | Jan precipitation mm = 127.8 | Feb precipitation mm = 129.1 | Mar precipitation mm = 146.2 | Apr precipitation mm = 160.2 | May precipitation mm = 186.2 | Jun precipitation mm = 131.7 | Jul precipitation mm = 139.2 | Aug precipitation mm = 157.3 | Sep precipitation mm = 163.6 | Oct precipitation mm = 156.2 | Nov precipitation mm = 147.9 | Dec precipitation mm = 142.0 | year precipitation mm = 1782.5 | unit precipitation days = 1.0 mm | Jan precipitation days = 12.97 | Feb precipitation days = 11.64 | Mar precipitation days = 13.37 | Apr precipitation days = 15.89 | May precipitation days = 16.54 | Jun precipitation days = 14.85 | Jul precipitation days = 15.81 | Aug precipitation days = 16.04 | Sep precipitation days = 14.75 | Oct precipitation days = 13.86 | Nov precipitation days = 12.92 | Dec precipitation days = 14.88 | year precipitation days = 172.91 | Jan sun = 96.6 | Feb sun = 74.7 | Mar sun = 65.4 | Apr sun = 10.9 | May sun = 17.1 | Jun sun = 14.8 | Jul sun = 30.8 | Aug sun = 41.9 | Sep sun = 46.1 | Oct sun = 62.1 | Nov sun = 80.1 | Dec sun = 63.2 | year sun = 600.4 | source 1 = Meteo climat<ref>{{cite web |url = http://meteo-climat-bzh.dyndns.org/listenormale-1981-2010-1-p216.php |title = Moyennes 1981/2010: France (Terres Australes) |publisher = Météoclimat |language = French |access-date = June 14, 2015}}</ref><ref>{{cite web |url = http://meteo-climat-bzh.dyndns.org/index.php?page=stati&id=73 |title = STATION Alfred Faure |publisher = Météoclimat |language = French |access-date = June 14, 2015}}</ref> | date=June 2015 }}
