This species grows to {{convert|3.3|cm|in|abbr=on}} in standard length.<ref name = Fishbase>{{Fishbase|Alepidomus|evermanni|month=February|year=2019}}</ref> It is the only known member of its genus.<ref name = "Fishbase genus">{{FishBase genus|genus=Alepidomus|month=February|year=2019}}</ref> This species was described as ''Atherina evermanni'' by Carl H.
