He received almost seven percent of the vote for Lieutenant Governor of Washington in 1992, the same year independent candidate Ross Perot received nearly a quarter of the vote for U.S. President.<ref>[https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/results_report.aspx?e=3&c=&c2=&t=&t2=&p=&p2=&y= 1992 election results], Washington Secretary of State</ref> The candidate's name was originally David M.
