'''About Comics''' is a publisher of comics and comics-related material founded in 1998 by Nat Gertler.<ref name="Comics at 10 Year mark">{{cite news|last=Murphy|first=Chris|title=About Comics at the Ten Year Mark|url=http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/new-titles/adult-announcements/article/4369-about-comics-at-the-ten-year-mark-.html|accessdate=29 August 2011|newspaper=Publishers Weekly|date=17 November 2008}}</ref> According to Gertler, it is intended to be "[neither] a mainstream comics publisher, nor an alternative comics publisher".<ref name="About 2012">{{cite web|last=Gertler|first=Nat|title=About Comics|url=http://www.aboutcomics.com/about.htm|publisher=About Comics|accessdate=21 October 2012}}</ref>
The company has published works by such comics writers as Kurt Busiek and Charles M. Schulz, as well as producing books such as ''Panel One'' and ''Panel Two'', featuring comic scripts written by a number of top comics writers. Several of About Comics’ bestsellers have been works that have been rediscovered and republished, including several books of little-known early comics work by Charles M. Schulz. Other About Comics’ titles include ''Fusion'', a shared universe anthology by a number of sci-fi writers and artists originally printed by Eclipse Comics; ''The Weasel Patrol'', an insert comic attached to ''Fusion'' written by Ken Macklin and drawn by Lela Dowling; and ''The Misadventures of Prince Ivan'', a fantasy comic written by Diane Duane.<ref name="Fusion 2012">{{cite web|title=Exclusive: About Comics will only offer new material via POD and digital|url=http://comicsbeat.com/exclusive-about-comics-will-only-offer-new-material-via-pod-and-digital/|publisher=The Beat (comics culture)|accessdate=October 21, 2012|date=April 11, 2012}}</ref><ref name=Misadventures>{{cite web|title=PREVIEW: Diane Duane's The Misadventures of Prince Ivan|url=http://comicsbeat.com/preview-diane-duanes-the-misadventures-of-prince-ivan/|publisher=The Beat (comic culture)|accessdate=October 21, 2012|date=August 12, 2011}}</ref>
Part of the motivation for the line is the company founder’s own interests and past success with genre specific works. The re-publication of a graphic novel adaptation of ''Alice in Wonderland'' with art by Lela Dowling proved to be successful when libraries discovered the book. Their steady purchases have made it one of the company’s most consistent sellers. About Comics’ other area of success has been printing books that appeal to readers with an interest in making their own comic books. The company has experimented with printing full size blank comic books with cardstock covers.<ref name="Comics at 10 Year mark"/>
About Comics founded 24 Hour Comics Day,<ref name="2008 24 Hour event">{{Cite web|title=ComicsPRO Opens Registration for 24 Hour Comics Day 2008 |url=http://www.comicrelated.com/press/080803001.html |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20090504022110/http://www.comicrelated.com/press/080803001.html |work=Comic Related |archivedate=2009-05-04 |accessdate=September 27, 2009 |url-status=dead }}</ref> an annual event which now includes comics creators in over twenty countries participating in the creation of over 10,000 comic pages every year.
