== Reception == The album has received mixed reviews from critics, notably Metacritic which currently holds the album at 58/100 based on 7 critical reviews.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www2.metacritic.com/music/artists/reverendandthemakers/frenchkissinthechaos |title=A French Kiss in the Chaos Reviews, Ratings, Credits, and More at Metacritic |publisher=.metacritic.com |date=27 July 2009 |accessdate=2012-02-16 |archive-date=7 August 2009 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090807080729/http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/reverendandthemakers/frenchkissinthechaos |url-status=dead }}</ref> The BBC also gave the album a mixed review, claiming that the album is an "accomplished indie album" if only its maker didn't need to resort to "hackneyed generalisations about the media having 'license to print lies as facts' and ridiculous alliteration like 'Professor Pickles prescribing me Prozac pills'".<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/npdp/ |title=Music – Review of Reverend and The Makers – A French Kiss in the Chaos |publisher=BBC |access-date=2012-02-16}}</ref>

The Guardian backed this review up by stating other than "the galloping "Hidden Persuaders" and the funk groove of "No Wood Just Trees", this fails to excite."<ref>{{cite news| url=https://www.theguardian.com/music/2009/jul/26/reverend-makers-french-kiss-chaos | work=The Guardian | location=London | title=Reverend and The Makers, A French Kiss in the Chaos | first=Katie | last=Toms | date=26 July 2009 | accessdate=23 April 2010}}</ref>

However, Contact Music stated the album was "decent" and stated the first single "Silence is Talking" rivals that of the band's breakthrough single Heavyweight Champion of the World and the album's finale, "Hard Time for Dreamers" was "breathtaking" and its greatness was "undeniable".<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.contactmusic.com/new/home.nsf/albumreview/reverend-and-the-makers-a-french-kiss-in-the-chaosx20x07x09 |title=Reverend and the Makers | A French Kiss in the Chaos Album Review |date=20 July 2009 |publisher=Contactmusic.com |accessdate=2012-02-16}}</ref>

Also, The Telegraph was extremely complimentary about the album, suggesting the album is a "cross between the arch cleverness of Blur and crowd pleasing instincts of Oasis". The newspaper awarded the album 3/5 stars.<ref>{{cite news| url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/cdreviews/5901138/Reverend-and-The-Makers-a-French-Kiss-In-The-Chaos-CD-review.html | work=The Daily Telegraph | location=London | title=Reverend & The Makers: a French Kiss in the Chaos, CD review | first=Neil | last=McCormick | date=28 July 2009 | accessdate=23 April 2010}}</ref>
