Since its inception in February 2016, their eponymous YouTube channel has amassed over eight million subscribers and over three billion cumulative views. The recognizable peculiarity of their videos is that each band or artist is filmed alone on stage with a neutral background of a particular color.<ref name=":1">{{Cite web|last=Thibault|first=Alexis|date=26 November 2018|title=What is Colors, the new musical platform that's reinventing live sessions?|url=https://www.numero.com/en/music/colors-show-music-platform-session-live-jorja-smith-eddy-de-pretto-angele-parcels-romeo-elvis-mahalia-kali-uchis-tommy-cash|access-date=3 January 2021|website=Numéro|issn=1292-6213}}</ref><ref name=":2">{{Cite web|last=Chow|first=Andrew R.|date=27 November 2019|title=Meet COLORS, a Rising Powerhouse for Music Discovery|url=https://time.com/5737445/colors-studios-youtube/|access-date=3 January 2021|website=Time}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|last=Gordon|first=Clarissa|date=25 February 2019|title=COLORS Studios mixes music, minimalist aesthetics|url=https://dailytargum.com//article/2019/02/colors-studio-story-2019|access-date=3 January 2021|website=The Daily Targum|oclc=15814709}}</ref><ref name=":0">{{Cite web|date=24 October 2018|title=How Colors Studios has shaped music & fashion|url=https://www.repeatmag.com/post/how-colors-studios-has-shaped-music-fashion|access-date=3 January 2021|website=Repeat|issn=0168-6542}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|last=Spencer|first=Samantha|date=19 February 2018|title=Youtube Spotlight: COLORS Berlin|url=http://wrvu.org/youtube-spotlight-colors-berlin/|access-date=3 January 2021|website=WRVU}}</ref>

== History == In 2016, Philipp Starcke left his advertising job in Hamburg to fully embark on a new project concerning his passion for music and the discovery of new artists. His concept was simply to create quality music videos in a clean style that stands out from the multitude of content on social networks. Starcke believed that this would "connect people, countries and cultures on a creative and emotional level." He then contacted his friend Felix Glasmeyer, who was then a fashion photographer in New York, to present his project to him. Glasmeyer was quickly convinced and then moved to Berlin to help Starcke set up a new studio.<ref name=":2" /> At first, it was Starcke's savings that made it possible to rent a small former broadcasting studio located within the Funkhaus Berlin building on Nalepastraße. Without any recording equipment or contact in the music industry, the beginnings of ColorsxStudios were complicated according to its creators. Jonas Weber, an expert in the digital economy, also joined Starcke and Glasmeyer to help develop this concept.<ref name=":2" /><ref name="FFWD" /> The first artist invited to perform on stage was Australian folk singer Emilio Mercuri (Redcoats), who performed his song "Sienna" accompanied only by his acoustic guitar.<ref name=":1" /><ref>{{Cite web|last=Green|first=Dylan|date=February 12, 2019|title=10 Artists Who Need COLORS Music Videos|url=https://djbooth.net/features/2019-02-12-artists-to-be-featured-on-colors-music-videos|access-date=3 January 2021|website=DJBooth}}</ref> The video of this recording was posted on February 19, 2016, on YouTube and marks the first episode of a long series titled "A Colors Show".<ref>{{Cite web|last=Mercuri|first=Emilio|author-link=Redcoats (Australian band)|date=19 February 2016|title=EMILIO MERCURI - SIENNA {{!}} A COLORS SHOW|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-4HzZrMFVs|access-date=3 January 2021|website=YouTube|publisher=COLORS}}</ref>

Initially, the company was officially registered as Colors Media UG by Philipp Starcke on 14 March 2017, but later rebranded as ColorsxStudios GmbH in September 2019, increasing its share capital up from €900 to €25,000 and crediting Felix Glasmeyer and Jonas Weber as co-founders.<ref name="FFWD" /><ref name="imprint" /><ref>{{Cite web|title=Colors Media UG|url=https://www.northdata.com/?id=3358065013|access-date=3 January 2021|website=northdata.com}}</ref> Apart from earning revenue from advertisements running before videos, ColorsxStudios also used partnerships with brands like Adidas and WeTransfer in 2018.<ref>{{Cite web|last=Pellatt|first=Corey|date=1 October 2018|title=adidas Football and COLORS Link up with Gunna, J.I.D, Not3s and Lefa for a Series of Live Studio Sessions|url=https://www.complex.com/sports/2018/10/adidas-football-colors-sessions|access-date=3 January 2020|website=Complex}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|date=17 March 2018|title=WeTransfer and COLORS present colorful new music series showcasing up-and-coming artists|url=https://wetransfer.pr.co/164829-wetransfer-and-colors-present-colorful-new-music-series-showcasing-up-and-coming-artists|archive-url=https://archive.today/20210103155957/https://wetransfer.pr.co/164829-wetransfer-and-colors-present-colorful-new-music-series-showcasing-up-and-coming-artists|url-status=dead|archive-date=2021-01-03|access-date=3 January 2020|website=WeTransfer}}</ref> In December 2020, over 200 recordings from ColorsxStudios sessions were made available on streaming platforms, with a comprehensive playlist on Spotify amassing over 200 thousand followers within only one month of creation.<ref>{{Cite web|date=11 December 2020|title=Playlist: COLORS - ALL SHOWS|url=https://open.spotify.com/playlist/72cxf8xXRQOZiYbSJR71io|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://archive.today/20210103161124/https://open.spotify.com/playlist/72cxf8xXRQOZiYbSJR71io|archive-date=3 January 2021|access-date=3 January 2021|website=Spotify}}</ref> On social media platforms other than YouTube, ColorsxStudios has amassed over one million followers on their Instagram page,<ref>{{Cite web|title=COLORS (@colorsxstudios)|url=https://www.instagram.com/colorsxstudios/|access-date=3 January 2021|website=Instagram}}</ref> and over 266 thousand followers on their Facebook page.<ref>{{Cite web|title=COLORS {{!}} Facebook|url=https://www.facebook.com/colorsxstudios/|access-date=3 January 2021|website=Facebook}}</ref>

== Content == The main Colors video series are categorized under the following names:

* '''A Colors Show''': Each installment of the platform's flagship series entails a performance by one or more artists in a minimalist room with floor and walls covered in a single color. * '''A Colors Encore''': This series usually features another track by an artist who participated in "A Colors Show". More liberties are taken in the making of the videos, in particular with more pronounced shadow play and handheld camera filming. * '''New Opera''': This more recent series tends to promote a wider range of artistic disciplines and the subjects may have greater social and cultural significance. The first episode invited French singer Yseult to perform three songs, the first two filmed in black and white and the third setting her in a partially flooded room decorated with turquoise fabrics. Emphasis is also placed on the high fashion clothing worn by the artist during their performance.<ref>{{Cite web|date=13 November 2020|title=YSEULT – NEW OPERA|url=https://colorsxstudios.com/shows/new-opera-yseult/|access-date=3 January 2021|website=colorsxstudios.com|archive-date=15 January 2021|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210115172927/https://colorsxstudios.com/shows/new-opera-yseult/|url-status=dead}}</ref>

== Operating model and public image == The artistic and committed identity of ColorsxStudios has become increasingly defined since their inception. Their social engagement charter states that their responsibility is to choose artists whose voices and messages are part of an inclusive and culturally diverse structure, whose goal is to build bridges between cultures and artistic disciplines.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Social Responsibility|url=https://colorsxstudios.com/social-responsibility/|access-date=3 January 2021|website=colorsxstudios.com|location=Germany}}</ref> This diversification of means of expression and this choice to broadcast committed artists are fully in line with the founding principles of the studio, which is now defined as a "musical platform" in the broad sense.<ref>{{Cite web|title=About|url=https://colorsxstudios.com/about/|access-date=3 January 2021|website=colorsxstudios.com|location=Germany}}</ref> In the same vein, ColorsxStudios has launched an online store where they sell a range of products ranging from environmentally responsible clothing to vinyls featuring certain original titles.<ref>{{Cite web|title=COLORSXSTUDIOS SHOP|url=https://shop.colorsxstudios.com/|access-date=3 January 2021|website=shop.colorsxstudios.com}}</ref>
