ANCOLD is a member of the [[ICOLD|International Commission on Large Dams]] (or ICOLD).
==Role and functions== ANCOLD maintains a register of large dams in Australia, of which approximately 490 dams were listed on the register in 1999.{{citation needed|date=June 2023}} By international convention, "large" dams are those that are {{convert|15|m}} or more in height, although a dam over {{convert|10|m}} qualifies if it has particular features such as large storage or specially difficult foundation conditions.
The association awards scholarships to young professionals to attend the annual ANCOLD conference.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.ancold.org.au/?page_id=580|title=ANCOLD Scholarships|year=2019|publisher=ANCOLD|access-date=5 August 2019}}</ref>
