==History== {{Unreferenced section|date=March 2026}} The ACA Hurricane 130 was designed by James E. Biersach of Alerting Communicators of America (ACA) and was presented at a Civil Defense convention in November 1968. The ACA Hurricane 130 was a supercharged electro-mechanical siren utilizing an air compressor to produce a high output similar in operation to the Federal Signal Thunderbolt. The siren's horn and enclosures are made from fiber glass. It was available in dual tone 8/10, 10/12, 8/12 port, or single tone 8, 10, or 12 port. Most models however came equipped with an 8/10 chopper port ratio. The first iteration of the Hurricane came with a square horn, later models changed to a circular design. The original ACA Hurricane 130 came with a unique all-in-one chopper and motor assembly with a 25-horsepower direct-drive air compressor.
ACA introduced design changes and improvements with the second and third generation Hurricanes, designated the Mk II and Mk III. These changes to the design included the compressor motor being upgraded to 30 horsepower, the compressor itself now mounted on the siren's pole, the controller receiving its own enclosure, and a redesigned chopper assembly for easier maintenance. The Mk II saw the change of the horn from the original square horn to the circular design the last two generations. ACA continued production of the ACA Hurricane siren until 1981, it was succeeded by the Penetrator P-50. The Hurricane did not receive widespread success. With many instances being removed or replaced with more modern alerting systems, the only known functioning example is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
