==History and profile== The magazine was founded by the former ''Il Giorno'' director {{Interlanguage link|Gaetano Baldacci|it}} in Milan in 1960 as a weekly political, cultural and literary magazine.<ref name=encic>{{cite encyclopedia|title=Baldacci, Gaetano |url=https://www.treccani.it/enciclopedia/gaetano-baldacci_%28Enciclopedia-Italiana%29/|encyclopedia=Enciclopedia Italiana|language=it|year=1961}}</ref><ref name="nssh" /> The first issue appeared in June 1960.<ref name=encic/> Baldacci also directed the magazine.<ref name=nssh>{{cite book |author=Gianni Bono|title=Guida al fumetto italiano|publisher=Epierre|year=2003|chapter=ABC|pages=20–1}}</ref>

The graphic of the magazine was curated by the artist {{Interlanguage link|Sirio Musso|it}}, and was inspired by the popular British newspapers, while contents were often controversial, provocative and polemic. In the second half of the 1970s the circulation started to decline, and ''ABC'' eventually closed in 1977, after over 800 issues. Occasional attempts of resurrecting the magazine, in 1980 and in 2001, lasted only a few issues.<ref name="nssh"/>
