== History == The Four Party Alliance was formed in 1999<ref name="ds12Apr2012">{{cite news |title=18-party alliance launched |url=http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/latest_news.php?nid=37176|work=The Daily Star |date=18 April 2012 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120418180340/http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/latest_news.php?nid=37176 |archive-date=18 April 2012}}</ref> ahead of the [[2001 Bangladeshi general election|2001 General Election]], and consisted of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), [[Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh|Jamaat-e-Islami]], [[Bangladesh Jatiya Party|Jatiya Party (Naziur)]] and [[Islami Oikya Jote]]. The alliance won a substantial majority in 2001, but was heavily defeated by the Awami League-led Grand Alliance in 2008.
