The singles draw featured [[2009 Sony Ericsson Open|Miami]], [[2009 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters|Monte Carlo]] and [[2009 Italian Open (tennis)|Rome]] finalist, [[2009 Dubai Tennis Championships|Dubai]] and [[2009 Serbia Open|Belgrade]] titlist [[Novak Djokovic]] and [[2008 Davis Cup]] winner, [[2009 Brisbane International|Brisbane]] runner-up [[Fernando Verdasco]]. Also seeded were [[2009 SA Tennis Open|Johannesburg]] and [[2009 Open 13|Marseille]] winner [[Jo-Wilfried Tsonga]], [[2009 BMW Open|Munich]] champion [[Tomáš Berdych]], [[Dmitry Tursunov]], [[Jürgen Melzer]] and [[Rainer Schüttler]].
