The '''2000''' '''West Asian Football Federation Championship''', also known as the '''King Hussein Cup''', was the first edition of the [[WAFF Championship]]; it took part in [[Amman]], the capital of Jordan. [[Iran national football team|Iran]] won the final against [[Syria national football team|Syria]] 1–0. The eight entrants were [[Iraq national football team|Iraq]], Iran, Syria, [[Palestine national football team|Palestine]], [[Lebanon national football team|Lebanon]], [[Kazakhstan national football team|Kazakhstan]] (invited nation), [[Kyrgyzstan national football team|Kyrgyzstan]] (invited nation), and host nation [[Jordan national football team|Jordan]]. The teams were grouped into two groups of four, playing a round-robin format. Semi-finals and finals followed, played by the top two teams from each group.

Every country affiliated with [[West Asian Football Federation|WAFF]] was invited the tournament: [[Jordan national football team|Jordan]]—host nation—, [[Iran national football team|Iran]], [[Syria national football team|Syria]], [[Palestine national football team|Palestine]], [[Iraq national football team|Iraq]], and [[Lebanon national football team|Lebanon]], while two places where given two [[Kyrgyzstan national football team|Kyrgyzstan]] and [[Kazakhstan national football team|Kazakhstan]]. A total of eight teams participated.
