It was the 84th edition of the [[International German Open|Hamburg Masters]] (Hamburg Masters), and was part of the [[ATP Masters Series|ATP Super 9]] of the [[1990 ATP Tour]]. It took place at the [[Rothenbaum|Rothenbaum Tennis Center]] in [[Hamburg]], West Germany, from 7 May through 14 May 1990.

The men's field was headlined by ATP No. 3, [[1990 Belgian Indoor Championships|Brussels]], [[1990 Eurocard Classics|Stuttgart]] titlist, [[1990 Australian Open|Australian Open]], [[1990 Monte Carlo Open|Monte Carlo]] quarter-finalist [[Boris Becker]], [[1990 Lipton International Players Championships|Miami]], [[1990 Volvo San Francisco|San Francisco]] winner, recent [[1990 Newsweek Champions Cup and the Virginia Slims of Indian Wells|Indian Wells]] finalist [[Andre Agassi]] and [[1989 Tokyo Indoor|Tokyo Indoor]] winner and [[1989 US Open (tennis)|US Open]] semi-finalist [[Aaron Krickstein]].
