[[South Africa Davis Cup team|South Africa]] defeated [[Colombia Davis Cup team|Colombia]] in the Americas Inter-Zonal final, [[India Davis Cup team|India]] defeated [[Australia Davis Cup team|Australia]] in the Eastern Zone final, and [[Italy Davis Cup team|Italy]] and the [[Soviet Union Davis Cup team|Soviet Union]] were the winners of the two Europe Zones, defeating [[Romania Davis Cup team|Romania]] and [[Czechoslovakia Davis Cup team|Czechoslovakia]] respectively.
