[[Australia Davis Cup team|Australia]] defeated [[Canada Davis Cup team|Canada]] in the America Zone final, and [[Czech Republic Davis Cup team|Czechoslovakia]] defeated [[Yugoslavia Davis Cup team|Yugoslavia]] in the Europe Zone final. Australia defeated Czechoslovakia in the Inter-Zonal play-off, but was defeated by defending champions the [[United States Davis Cup team|United States]] in the Challenge Round.
