The **Zlin Savage** is a series of light sport aircraft similar in construction to the [Piper Cub](/source/Piper_Cub)[1][2][3] manufactured by the [Zlin Aircraft](/source/Zlin_Aircraft) Company of [Zlín](/source/Zl%C3%ADn), [Czech Republic](/source/Czech_Republic).

## Design and development

The Zlin Savage series are [strut-braced](/source/Strut-braced), [high-wing](/source/High-wing) aircraft with [conventional landing gear](/source/Conventional_landing_gear). The [fuselage](/source/Fuselage) is constructed with welded steel tubing. The wings are constructed with [aluminum](/source/Aluminum) [spars](/source/Spar_(aviation)) and [wing ribs](/source/Wing_rib) with [aircraft fabric covering](/source/Aircraft_fabric_covering). Fuel is stored in two wing root tanks. The control surfaces use aluminum skins.[1][2][3]

The design is an accepted [Federal Aviation Administration](/source/Federal_Aviation_Administration) special light-sport aircraft under the marketing names of Savage, Classic, Cruiser, Cub, iCub, Cub S, Bobber, Nomad and Outback.[4]

**Savage Classic**
- Base model for the US [light-sport aircraft](/source/Light-sport_aircraft) category. Engines are the 80 hp (60 kW) [Rotax 912UL](/source/Rotax_912UL), the 100 hp (75 kW) [Rotax 912ULS](/source/Rotax_912ULS), 85 hp (63 kW) [Jabiru 2200](/source/Jabiru_2200) or the 115 hp (86 kW) [Rotax 914](/source/Rotax_914) [turbocharged](/source/Turbocharged) [four-stroke](/source/Four-stroke) aircraft engine.[2][3]

**Savage Cruiser**

Zlin Savage Bobber

**Savage Bobber**
- A Savage Cub with an uncovered open-frame [fuselage](/source/Fuselage) designed to comply with the [Fédération Aéronautique Internationale](/source/F%C3%A9d%C3%A9ration_A%C3%A9ronautique_Internationale) microlight rules including a maximum gross weight of 472.5 kg (1,042 lb). The baggage compartment is a fabric or leather bag strapped to the [airframe](/source/Airframe).[2][3]

**Savage Cub S**
- Extended fuselage and larger tail surfaces. Multiple engine installations from 100 to 180 hp (75 to 134 kW). The 180 hp (134 kW) Titan Stroker IO-340 powerplant was introduced in 2013.[5]
