The genus ''Zeidora'' was instituted by A. Adams in 1860, for the reception of two Japanese shells having the outer aspect of ''[Emarginula](/source/Emarginula)'' and an internal shelf as in ''[Crepidula](/source/Crepidula)''.<ref>[https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/16141956 Tate, R. The shell resembles ''[Emarginula](/source/Emarginula)'', with the margin of the [aperture](/source/Aperture_(mollusc)) crenulated and anteriorly deeply fissured, but there is posteriorly an internal, flat, semilunar septum present, which distinguishes this genus from any other Fissurellidae.<ref>[http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/100489 Tryon (1882) Structural and systematic conchology vol.
