**Zebunisa Bangash** ([Urdu](/source/Urdu_language): زیب النسا), better known as **Zeb Bangash** ([Urdu](/source/Urdu_language): زیب بنگش), is a [Pakistani](/source/Pakistani) singer-songwriter from [Lahore](/source/Lahore), Punjab. Her family originally comes from [Khyber Pakhtunkhwa](/source/Khyber_Pakhtunkhwa). Apart from her solo career, she was a member of the music group [Zeb and Haniya](/source/Zeb_and_Haniya) along with [Haniya Aslam](/source/Haniya_Aslam), her first cousin.[1]

She has been active since 2008 and is the first Pakistani artist who served as a music director of the Bollywood movie [Lipstick Under My Burkha](/source/Lipstick_Under_My_Burkha), which received 18 film awards.[2][3] During her career, Bangash has recorded songs in [Urdu](/source/Urdu), [Pashto](/source/Pashto), [Punjabi](/source/Punjabi_language), [Turkish](/source/Turkish_language), [Persian](/source/Persian_language), [Saraiki](/source/Saraiki_language) and [Hindko](/source/Hindko). She has been often seen on the Pakistani television shows [Coke Studio](/source/Coke_Studio_(Pakistani_TV_program)), [Pakistan Idol](/source/Pakistan_Idol), and [Pepsi Battle of the Bands](/source/Pepsi_Battle_of_the_Bands).[4]

## Career

Zebunisa Bangash began her career with her cousin [Haniya Aslam](/source/Haniya_Aslam) as [Zeb and Haniya](/source/Zeb_and_Haniya).[5] They released their debut album *[Chup!](/source/Chup!)* in 2008.[6] In 2013, Zeb did a song for the film *[Madras Cafe](/source/Madras_Cafe)* and made her debut in Bollywood. She continued her solo career after Haniya left to study in Canada. She sang for the soundtrack of *[Highway](/source/Highway_(2014_Hindi_film))* (2014), *[Bin Roye](/source/Bin_Roye)* (2015), *[Manto](/source/Manto_(2015_film))* (2015), *[Ho Mann Jahan](/source/Ho_Mann_Jahan)* (2016), *[Fitoor](/source/Fitoor)* (2016), *[Lala Begum](/source/Lala_Begum)* (2016), *[Verna](/source/Verna_(film))* (2017), *[Parwaaz Hai Junoon](/source/Parwaaz_Hai_Junoon)* (2018), *[Baaji](/source/Baaji_(2019_film))* (2019), *[Parey Hut Love](/source/Parey_Hut_Love)* (2019) and *[Superstar](/source/Superstar_(2019_film))* (2019).[7][8] She also sung the title track of television series *[Diyar-e-Dil](/source/Diyar-e-Dil)* which won [Lux Style Award](/source/15th_Lux_Style_Awards) for Best Original Soundtrack and [Hum Award for Best Original Soundtrack](/source/Hum_Award_for_Best_Original_Soundtrack) in 2016.[9]

She has sung several songs for *[Coke Studio](/source/Coke_Studio_(Pakistan))*.,[10] including Paimona, Chup, Chal Diyay, Bibi Sanam Janem, Tann Dolay and more. She then also performed a single in the second season of *[Pepsi Battle of the Bands](/source/Pepsi_Battle_of_the_Bands)*.[11] In 2019, she performed "Roshe", a Kashmiri ode to loss in [CokeStudio12](/source/CokeStudio12).[12]

Zeb Bangash is the first Pakistani artist to serve as music director of an award-winning Bollywood film;[13]

She is part of the Brooklyn-based ensemble Sandaraa, with the klezmer clarinetist/composer [Michael Winograd](/source/Michael_Winograd) and a number of other leading Brooklyn-based musicians.[14]
