Beaumier was elected as a [Parti Québécois](/source/Parti_Qu%C3%A9b%C3%A9cois) candidate to the provincial legislature in the district of [Nicolet](/source/Nicolet_(provincial_electoral_district)) in the [1981 election](/source/1981_Quebec_general_election), against [Union Nationale](/source/Union_Nationale_(Quebec)) incumbent [Serge Fontaine](/source/Serge_Fontaine).

==Cabinet Member==
Beaumier served as [parliamentary assistant](/source/Parliamentary_Secretary) from 1983 to 1985 and was appointed to the [Cabinet](/source/Executive_Council_of_Quebec) in 1985, but was defeated by [Liberal](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Quebec) candidate [Maurice Richard](/source/Maurice_Richard_(Quebec_politician)) in the [1985 election](/source/1985_Quebec_general_election).

==Political comeback==
Beaumier ran for a seat in the district of [Champlain](/source/Champlain_(provincial_electoral_district)) in the [1989](/source/1989_Quebec_general_election), [1994](/source/1994_Quebec_general_election) and [1998 elections](/source/1998_Quebec_general_election) and was successful on his two last attempts. He did not run for re-election in the [2003 election](/source/2003_Quebec_general_election).
