# Yvan Canuel

Canadian actor

**Yvan Canuel** (April 8, 1935 – December 26, 1999) was a Canadian actor from [Quebec](/source/Quebec).[1] He was most noted for his role in the 1993 film *[La Florida](/source/La_Florida_(film))*, for which he was a [Genie Award](/source/Genie_Award) nominee for [Best Supporting Actor](/source/Canadian_Screen_Award_for_Best_Supporting_Actor) at the [14th Genie Awards](/source/14th_Genie_Awards) in 1993.[2]

Originally from [Mont-Joli](/source/Mont-Joli), Quebec, he began his career as a radio actor in the 1950s, soon branching out into television roles.[1] On television he was best known for his roles in the series *Mont-Joye*, *[Terre humaine](/source/Terre_humaine)*, *[Duplessis](/source/Duplessis_(TV_series))*, *L'Héritage* and *Scoop*; in film, his performances included *[The Christmas Martian](/source/The_Christmas_Martian)*, *[Taureau](/source/Taureau_(film))*, *[J.A. Martin Photographer](/source/J.A._Martin_Photographer) (J.A. Martin photographe)* and *[The Alley Cat](/source/The_Alley_Cat_(1985_film)) (Le Matou)*.

He was the husband of actress [Lucille Papineau](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lucille_Papineau&action=edit&redlink=1), and the father of actor [Nicolas Canuel](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nicolas_Canuel&action=edit&redlink=1) and filmmaker [Érik Canuel](/source/%C3%89rik_Canuel).[3]
