It is administered by [Xiaogan](/source/Xiaogan) City and is located just outside Xiaogan's urban area.

## History

During the [Spring and Autumn period](/source/Spring_and_Autumn_period) of Chinese history (770-476 BCE), Yunmeng County formed part of the [Zhou dynasty](/source/Zhou_dynasty) vassal [State of Yun](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Yun_(state)&action=edit&redlink=1), later annexed by the [State of Chu](/source/Chu_(state)) whose kings used the area as a hunting ground. After Chu's defeat at the hands of the [State of Qin](/source/Qin_(state)) in 223 BCE, Yunmeng became part of Qin territory. Legend suggests that China's first emperor [Qin Shi Huang](/source/Qin_Shi_Huang) visited the county in 219 BCE. Yunmeng was the location of the [Jiangxia Commandery](/source/Jiangxia_Commandery) of the [Han dynasty](/source/Han_dynasty) and the cradle of the Chinese [Huang Clan](/source/Huang_(surname)).

## Culture

Yumian ([Chinese](/source/Simplified_Chinese_characters): 鱼面; lit. 'fish noodle'), is a local specialty noodle made with flour and [carp](/source/Carp) or [black carp](/source/Black_carp) from the Fu River in Yunmeng.[7] Yunmeng Yumian was awarded silver medal of The first [Panama–Pacific International Exposition](/source/Panama%E2%80%93Pacific_International_Exposition) in 1915.[8][9]
