**Yuba** is a small [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area) in the [Lower Peninsula](/source/Lower_Peninsula_of_Michigan) of the [U.S. state](/source/U.S._state) of [Michigan](/source/Michigan).[2] Yuba is a part of [Grand Traverse County](/source/Grand_Traverse_County%2C_Michigan), and is located in [Acme Township](/source/Acme_Township%2C_Michigan) along [U.S. Highway 31](/source/U.S._Route_31_in_Michigan). Yuba rests on the eastern shore of [Lake Michigan](/source/Lake_Michigan)'s [Grand Traverse Bay](/source/Grand_Traverse_Bay).

## History

Yuba was first settled in by David R. Curtis in 1852. A post office was open in Yuba from 1865 to 1904.[3] The nearby village of [Fife Lake](/source/Fife_Lake%2C_Michigan) was named for William H. Fife, the first postmaster at Yuba.[4]

## Geography

Yuba lies on the shore of the East Arm off [Grand Traverse Bay](/source/Grand_Traverse_Bay), a [bay](/source/Bay) of [Lake Michigan](/source/Lake_Michigan). The town lies about 4.4 miles (7.1 km) northwest of [Williamsburg](/source/Williamsburg%2C_Michigan), about 4.8 miles (7.7 km) south of [Elk Rapids](/source/Elk_Rapids%2C_Michigan), and about 7.4 miles (11.9 km) northeast of [Traverse City](/source/Traverse_City%2C_Michigan). [US Highway 31](/source/U.S._Route_31_in_Michigan) runs directly through Yuba, and can be used to access Elk Rapids and Traverse City.
