# Yset

**Yset**[1] or **Kvikne**[2] is a village in [Tynset Municipality](/source/Tynset_Municipality) in [Innlandet](/source/Innlandet) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). The mountain village is located near the mountain pass that lies between the large [Østerdalen](/source/%C3%98sterdalen) valley and [Trøndelag](/source/Tr%C3%B8ndelag) county.

The village is located along the [Orkla River](/source/Orkla_River) at the confluence with the [Ya River](/source/Ya_(river))[3] about 31 kilometres (19 mi) southeast of the village of [Innset](/source/Innset,_Tr%C3%B8ndelag) and about 33 kilometres (21 mi) northwest of the [town of Tynset](/source/Tynset_(town)). [Norwegian National Road 3](/source/Norwegian_National_Road_3) passes through the village.[4]

The old dam construction for the [Eidsfossen Hydroelectric Power Station](/source/Eidsfossen_Hydroelectric_Power_Station) can be seen from National Road 3 about 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) south of Yset.[5]

## History

The village was the [administrative centre](/source/Administrative_centre) of the old [Kvikne Municipality](/source/Kvikne_Municipality) which existed from 1838 until 1966.[6]

The Norwegian author [Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson](/source/Bj%C3%B8rnstjerne_Bj%C3%B8rnson) was born at the [Bjørgan parsonage](/source/Bj%C3%B8rgan_parsonage) near [Kvikne Church](/source/Kvikne_Church_(Tynset)) which lies in the village.

*Vollan gård* in Kvikne is the site of the national park center for the nearby [Forollhogna National Park](/source/Forollhogna_National_Park). The farm was the site for filming of the movie *[Secondløitnanten](/source/Secondl%C3%B8itnanten)* in 1993.
